i've got a problem, i don't understand this movie!
do you know why she had to die? or why that boy had to die, and whats on with dennis reveni? is it true that the woman in the prison tried to drown him, or why she did that?
help!!!!

well joey18 i will give you my understanding of the movie and you can take from it what you will.

the way the design works is after you kill someone you confess your murder. the conclusion of the film is that the design was real and that emily gray was not just some crazy chic. in order to illustrate this we see vern kill sara which we know he would never do in his right state of mind. if dennis was to kill sara the audience would still have no clear understanding if it was just some crazy cult or if the design was ligitamite.

yes...why did she let him live? you guess is as good as mine. i think what we are supposed to believe is that she failed in her attempt and somehow in her failure dennis was shown the design. i don't know though...if someone else wants to take that answer be my guest.

see the whole thing with this movie (and again, this is just how i saw it) is that it is simular to the old joke about the door in some man's house...when a young squire is traveling and stays in a man's house...the squire asks whats behind the door and the man says that he can't tell him, you have to be a monk...the mystery sits on the squire mind so long he decideds to become a monk to find out...so he dedicates his life to becoming a monk and goes back to the man's house and the man lets him open the door and the young monk sees ten stairs with a big steel door at the top...he walks up the stair and opens the big steel door to find another flight of stairs with another door atop...you repeat this a few more times and then after saying he opens the door once again you stop speaking....when your friends you are telling the joke to ask what the young monk saw you tell them you don't know you're not a monk.
in other words our feeble minds don't understand why these people have to get killed...but we do know that they do have to get killed because of the way the design is designed.
that's my guess at the movie...i could be worng.
neah, I don't buy your explanation bobes. I didn't enjoy this film very much because it leaves too many things unexplained? This design is bullsh!t.Maybe if the movie gave some pointers,hints on what the design this would be more credible.I watched the entire movie hoping that at the end the "design" may be revealed so it all has a sense, but it didn't happen. "why people kill?because there`s no reason why they don't" says dennis.wrong!you loose everything,starting with your freadom. is there anybody who can give a rational explanation for this movie.I thinks it was made this intentionally so that we argue at the end.It lacks too many things,sorry,I'll give it a 4.

The design answers all questions, giving an answer on that would have been pointless considering what it represented.
As for the killing bit, you've taken it in a very literal and physical sense....which is completely irrelevant to what the movie was getting at with all the metaphysical references.

well, have you ever seen the movie final destination. in that movie, for some reason the main character (devon sawa) was given a chance to see what the future was like for him and his friends thus cheating death so to speak. i believe that this movie is somewhat the same. in the movie it explains that the monk priest guy Nemesis was givin a heads up about the meaning of life and passed it on. I believe that the ones who figure out the riddles are allowed to see everything that will, has, and is happening so they try to do something about it. If Emily had succeeded in drowning Dennis then he wouldnt have figured out the riddle and tried to kill Sara. I guess she saw that he would kill her in the future and tried to prevent it but did not and thus he continued to carry out the plan of the design. Everything happens for a reason and those of us, who for some freak chance, find a way to tamper with it and mess things up, we then mess up the design. Just like in both Final Destination movies. If Emily would have killed Dennis then no one else would have figured out the design and things would have went on like they were supposed to. Thats what i think anyway. Feel free, anyone, to give me some feedback on what your thoughts are on the subject. Cheeryo.

I don't want to repeat my post in the "picture" thread, but if I heard right, Nemesis was the nickname given to the monk in India because of his resemblence to the Greek goddess of retributive justice, same name. Sara had cheated Fate in the auto accident and Dennis had probably cheated Fate once before Emily tried to drown him, making him twice as out-of-synch with the Design. He somehow got himself invited in, not being as dim as he wanted to appear (remember "boo!" on the website?). Having failed to kill Sara, he then knew that the Design wanted him dead. Just another case of bad Karma, I guess.

Why do people kill n confess they did it ? pretty unusual n absurd , I guess.Is it tht when u finish the game then u go on a killing spree n stuff ?? This movie is written by a man that had a briljant story. Well... he had a briljant story, his own story. But this story has many different endings as you make your own ending, the same as he did.
The thing in the movie that keeps repeating is, that it is not wrong to kill, as it is a usual thing that happends every day, by nature and human. But the difference is, what got through my mind, is that nature is not able to think for itself, humans are. It is wrong to kill, you take away someones life. Would it be wrong if someone else takes away your life? Yes it would. In this movie, it is not (in my opinion). As you see Dennis taking away his own life just to let the girl see how the design works.
So what is the meaning of life? That's one of the questions in the movie. Do you live to die? That's what you could be thinking right now.
This movie has so many twists and so many different ways of explaining things that happen within this movie, that I think it is not possible to have one rightful true explaination. It makes you think, wich is frustrating, about the true ending and the answers on your questions. But as it is also said in the movie by the father, sometimes you don't need to know the answer, but just take it as it is. These things happen and they don't need a meaning. But every action leads to different ways, so still in some way everything has a meaning. But not every meaning is rightful. As killing people also leads to a different meaning.... just it isn't right to do, in our logical seeing of life.
So in the end... you design your world in the way you take the things that happen. And everyone sees things different. As everyone's logic is its own logic. No one look at things in the same way...
I know this is an old post but I just watched the movie and wanted to reply to your post.
The movie seems to hint at a design beyond that of merely emulating nature.
What convinces other ( apparently sane ) people to follow Nemesis' teaching. Understanding the logic of his teaching doesn't seem enough by itself.
It seems that this Design is some "supernatural" understanding of nature's design.
I enjoyed the movie because I enjoyed the concept of the movie but I did feel that there were holes and typical movie tricks that could have been edited out. Dennis River killing himself was an unnecessary twist in the plot, for instance. Certainly it can be explained but I felt it was added for dramatic tension and didn't really better the film.
hi, dennis reveni killed himself because that was part of the design. his name was i never sinned backwards and he should have been killed when she tried to drown him. he thought in the design that he shouldn't have been alive and that's why he was looking for riddles at the shop in the beginning of the movie.

"if we knew all the answers we wouldn`t be human...maybe not knowing the answers we going out living....that`s the life all about" (I hope the quote is accurate).
I also find this movie entertaining (even it`s not a perfect one) somehow reminding me of "the game".
Well ya, I quite agree with rodantero. Everyone who wants to understand this movie has to look behind the writing, between the aisles...in front of life.

shareI'd guess it's because to confess is being true to ones convictions about what they view life to be.
Part of the design was the answer to the meaning of life. We also know that everyone dies (atleast from this plane of existence). If you see the design and you get all the answers about the meaning of life and whatever happens after then what does this life matter? Doing something atrocious by the laws of this life, by the laws of others, and confessing it without faultering shows ones complete faith in the design since whatever happens to them in this life is likely to be irrelevant.

It's a very very good film!!. I have searching for long time one web site that had all the riddles with their answers; but I could not find it. During film no are shown at screen the text of riddles.
