One question and one comment.

1. After May gave Darren the present he tried to kiss her in gratitude. Why did she pull back? Was it a reflex when she obviously liked him (as she impulsively kissed him the scene before).

2. I think Darren liked May and probably felt sorry for her in the beginning but he wasn't attracted to her physically, in fact the best way to describe Darren would be as an unsuccessful gigolo. He seemed very interested on how much money May had to give him and as far as the sex (according to her drawings) it seemed that May serviced him with fellatio more then satisfied her as a lover. I'm not casting any morale judgement, just an observation.

1. I think she pulled away due to moral fear. Obviously that did not last long.

2. I don't know to what extent he actually liked her. He was a straight up con that used everyone he could.

1. Guilt. Maybe also self- protection from possible pity kiss.

2. Craig at least seemed to think Darren liked her-- his interactions with her were very natural and easy and playful-- and affectionate. You don't have to have a mad throbbing attraction to someone to have a bit of fun with them, and to develop an attachment to them over time. Yeah he was a con, but that doesn't disallow the idea that he might have decided to have fun with it, and Craig's portrayal certainly seemed to allow for the idea that he'd become fond of her (that last sad wave at the end... if he was just conning her, why would he have bothered even looking at her, when he had such a great excuse to ignore her standing in front of him?)

As for the pics-- I think that was a plot device. The daughter needed to see something that ruled out any other explanation but her mother's full participation-- the nude sketches could have been explained away more easily that BJ pics.
The actual sex scenes between then showed a lot of stuff going on-- maybe BJs were a new thing for the mother, and she kept drawing them because she was surprised at herself?

He seemed like the type of man who likes all women in general. They are usually labeled womanizers but they don't see it that way. He has no interest in a relationship but is more than happy to have sex with, on a friendly basis.
She is mourning her youth when having sex could also be with a friend and being young was more important than being really beautiful. Older men can have sex with younger women and no one thinks twice. A woman that is even just 10 years older is looked at being "shocking" and "robbing the cradle."
In general, older women become sexless, invisible and unappealing. I don't think this, society does. And if an older woman does have an ounce of sex appeal she MUST have had plastic surgery (or she should if she's aging naturally.)
So this film jumped out at me. I loved it and found it very moving as it's the battle most women end up facing after 40, definitely 50. Only the English seem to be okay with women aging.
