The age of consent in regards to gay sex in the US

In regards to gay sex, in the UK a gay man used to be 21 years old, (I think its been put back to 16) while the age limit for two women remains 'open', I assume its within the age limits of heterosexuals, but not as classified?

Now, I assume that Annabelle was 16-17 years old, which seems like the age that an individual can consent to sex. So I was confused as to why her teacher was (as appeared) arrested, more to the point, why was she lead away by government officials? as opposed to the police? Was she actually arrested? All the that the teacher was guilty of was carrying on an unethical relationship with another student, surely being sacked or transferred to another school quietly(as mentioned by others on here) would have been sufficient enough?

I'm more of a breakfast for lunch type of girl.

Oh, I agree that the teacher should just be fired, as long as no age consent laws have been broken.

BTW, by 'quietly terminated' you mean fired as opposed to killed? If you mean the former, wouldn't it have been far more discreet to let her go, than to have her hauled out by Secret Services? That implies that she was arrested?

If I had seen this movie 30+ years ago, I would have had a different viewpoint than I did when I recently watched it for the first time. -scoring the hot teach...

However now that I have older eyes, I'm actually uncomforable, more so with Bloomington because it had more of a predator atmosphere than Loving Annabelle. (Even though I think Annabel was slightly the predator).

Legal age or not, it's a matter of one with experience or stability over the one who lacks experience and stability or compentacy. --taking advantage of another person.

Bloomington totally has the predator atmosphere with the teacher! LOL! Plus, the girl in that is only 19, so really she is not much older than Annabelle in this film. Plus the girl in Bloomington doesn't seem as experienced as Annabelle who has had an actual relationship in the past. It is only implied that the girl in Bloomington had sex with another woman but nothing is mentioned about a relationship. However, in the end I feel like the teacher is the one who gets the short end of the stick. Honestly I think both were used in the relationship in Bloomington.

However, I don't see anything wrong with one party having more experience than another. In LA they seem pretty evenly matched, or at least Annabelle is no newbie to lesbian relationships. In Bloomington the student is obviously a lot less experienced. Still, people have to start somewhere so unless you started when you are 16, and even then you could be with someone a lot more experienced, at some point you probably will be unevenly matched. I never felt the girl in Bloomington got taken advantage of. She wanted the relationship. Even though the teacher was the pursuer, I always thought she ended up getting used in the end.

I would probably argue Annabelle was the one who took advantage of another person (if I were to argue any of the characters from Bloomington or LA took advantage of the other) because while Simone may have had an attraction to Annabelle, she also didn't want to engage in it because of her profession. We saw her brush aside Annabelle's advances several times and tell her things were inappropriate. In Bloomington the student is intrigued to learn the professor often has relationships with students. She does not shy away from her advances and actually in her own way pursues back. It's just the teacher obviously knows way more of what she is doing than the student.

I agree because Bloomington student had a "sheltered" life vs "Loving Annabelle" student wasn't. However, imo Annabelle was still to some extent vulnerable not necessarily due to her chronological age but where she was in her head -her rebelling etc. Saying that anyone at any chronological age can be vulnerable because of where they're at in their head etc.

I think the key word is "vulnerable."

The age of consent between men was put back to 18, then 16 (not sure of dates off the top of my head, but this was in the last 10-15 years). The age of consent between women is no longer 'open' (this was also changed in the last 10-15 years), so that it's now 16 for everyone, male or female, gay or straight.

Regarding your second question, the age of consent in most US states is 18, so that does make it a crime over there. Also, certainly in the UK but although I'm not certain about the US, sex between a pupil and teacher is regarded as gross misconduct even if the pupil is overage.

Most USA states have seperate laws from age of consent laws, that make it illegal when it is a teacher-student relationship. The reason? It prevents tort from a person in position of power/authority (teacher) to influence the other (student) into having sex with them.

As for government license plate, it's not unreasonable for state attorney investigators in unamarked cars to have generic government license plates.
