This movie sucked!

normally, even on the boards of the best movies, there's someone, who completely disliked the it. So you can imagine my surprise that nobody said something about this horrible and disgustingly bad movie.
I could not even finish it! It's very close to "Honey" on my crap-film list!

deprofundis,

As I firmly believe this is one of the most visceral, well written films (with lesbian content) released in the last few years, I'm intrigued by your reaction to it. I could go into detail about why I love it and dissect what makes the film fantastic, perhaps you could share with us why you hated it?

Best,
AoI

Ermh... well written? more a cheap porn adaption with more (not necessarily better) dialogue. All, yes all, the characters were complete stereotypes, which you find in every teen people magazine or trival literature and last but not least Erin Kelly may be the worst actress ever to star a movie which actually made it to worldwide publication. Her woodden, unauthentic, heartless, exagerated play wasn't bareable for me.

I agree with you. It's kinda weak, bordering on mediocre. The whole movie - acting, directing and script wise - screamed B movie. I think people adore the movie so much because of the the theme (lesbian teacher-student relationship). Without such an explosive theme, people wouldn't give two hoots about the movie.

Oh my gosh it was dreadful.

I can understand how lesbian cinema has been kinda untouched, but this film really is the reason.

Erin, bless her heart, is just out of her depth in this film- I didn't buy her attraction to Simone for a second. A come hither look and nice breasts does not a convincing adolescent lesbian with serious issues make.

Lesbian themes need better treatment than this. I actually spent a good part of the film wishing for a decent tracking shot or focus pull.

Axe falls on director- where it should.

BUT, done right it could work. Script needs a ton of fixing.

reply

Okay, so the ending was absolutely terrible. I actually sat through the credits waiting for a real ending ...

But otherwise I really enjoyed the movie - I think its actually more groundbreaking than dreadful.

reply

Yeah, I also hated it for that reason. It's really sad that this has reached some iconic status in some circles, because it only proves how bad most movies of lesbian cinema are... I can't think of more than three really good movies about the subject and about ten more who deal with it in a good way at least in a subplot. Come on film makers you've got a broad and interested audience which is waiting for you!!!

The movie is extremely rushed. The characters are brought on full speed without any introduction. Situations arise with zero build-up. One scene in particular -- the drinking game -- when she says, "I've never had sex with a woman" and takes a drink... I mean, what is this, go to a new school and announce you're a lesbian to people you don't know?

It needs way more filler content between its scenes. The fill is just far too short to work. At 76 minutes, it's basically a collection of scenes that are poorly edited together, and each scene has basically next to nothing to do with the ones before and after.

A exceptional movie gets an 8/10 from me... a great movie gets a 7. A good movie gets a 6. An average movie gets a 5. A "could have been better, below average" movie gets a 4.

This movie is a 1. Horrendously bad ending. Terribly rushed cardboard characters. The editing was atrocious. Good god...

I felt the same way about the movie. However, I've already been spoiled by Lost and Delirious, which is a much better film encompassing almost all of the same themes.

I just wasn't convinced by this movie. I'm sorry for giving such vague criticism, but that's really as simple as it is. I did not feel like the characters reacted realistically. The worst part was when Annabelle was holding Simone after reading the letter hidden behind the picture frame. As she was saying "I'm not letting go" I was almost squirming in my seat because it seemed so forced. Cringe-inducingly bad, that was.

Sorry to dump all over you favorite film (if this is), but I highly recommend Lost and Delirious. It's depressing as hell, but I loved it.

I can understand everyone's disappointment with this film, however I disagree that it sucked. It is one of the better lesbian films I've watched. Though it doesn't compare to a few films I've seen. I thought it was good. Yes, not all teenage lesbians are very mature, but there are a few of are.

As for the director she did a good job. It is shorter then most films I've seen. I believe for the length of the movie it's good. Try looking for a 1930's film with this same type of background. I forget the title but it's similar to this one, but more conserative.

Erin wasn't bad nor was Diane who played Simone. Yes the crying came off as fake to some, but not all women cry the same. Think of it in context to variety.

It could use a bit more to it, but all in all it didn't really suck. I've watched it numerous times amongst a number of lesbians. Each said it was good, but every film isn't the greatest.

i thought erin was very good actually. didn't particuly like the ending, but its ambiguous so in my mind they ended up happy together

hey, yoda needs to give some better advice, or yoda needs to shut the *beep* up

reply

I agree. This movie is just... nothing. It says nothing. It makes you feel... nothing. I have shut it down after 30 minutes, it was just a waste of time.

Big time!
This is shamelessly a pornographic perversion on lesbianism. When I said "pornographic" I didn't mean the graphic sexual contents but the superficial fantasy about sexual attraction between 2 women that's masked with supposedly the feel of true love that's intended to to have a deep meaning or something.

The cliche is all over the place(the characters, the dialogs, the scenes). The biggest cliche is the scene when Annabelle sings "you're cold" (the Hannah-montana-esque song) to the teacher and then kisses her in the rain before proceeding to have a lustful sex in the teacher's bedroom.

I found myself laughing and double face-palming a lot during watching this movie. It's just sadly tasteless.

If you're interested in movies about lesbianism, do yourself a favor; watch "High Art" instead.

rushed maybe and a little short maybe, but didn't suck, those mentioning shutting it off, the story didn't even really start until around the last 1/2 hour, that is its main problem is it wasn't given enough time to tell the story, i think that is the issue with most lesbian movies i've seen in the 1st place, they all feel too rush, so many of the actusl stories start near the end of the movie, i mean what do you expect? but luckily the ones i've watched recently have actually made me feel something and at least enjoy them somewhat
