I Did Not Like The Ending

I loved the film. Because I loved the characters.

Did not like the ending.

Did not like the alternate ending.

I feel that if they were ever going to make love, it would have been off-campus, at Simone's beach house.

Both characters were too smart to get busted like that.

I do not believe that the head mistress of the school would call the police so quickly, and bring scandal on her High Class Boarding School, scandal comes from the outside, not from the inside. Parents would be pulling their children out of that school so fast it would make your head swim. That situation would have been handled quietly and diplomatically. A Boarding School is a business. There would have been no arrests. In my humble opinion.

If the parent discovers something is going on, then you might get the arrest, and charges. But if it is discovered from the inside, teachers and students are moved around and or transferred, and everything is kept quiet, because you don't want to be sued.

I sit and watch this movie, care about the characters, and then in the end the Writer/Director drags Simon off to jail like a common criminal, like someone who was caught exposing herself in public. That makes me feel bummed out.

Nobody likes to have that feeling at the end of a movie.

It also makes me feel as if the Writer did not care for Simone's character. Did the writer feel that this is what Simone deserved, to be arrested in public, and humiliated.

I am sorry I did not answer your question.

But I do not know the answer regarding the ages.

i agree with you, i loved this movie as i was watching it i got so intrigued by it only to be let down by the ending. it was as if the Writer/Director got lazy with the ending or whatever such a disappointment.

as for the age thing in the movie, i'm gonna guess that Simone was suppose to be in her 30s and my guess for Annabelle is 17/18 cuz i think they said she was a senior.

I don't know, I kind of felt like it was handled very simply and quietly. Mother Immaculatta had the government come and quietly take Simone away while everyone else was at church. But Annabelle noticed the government car and ran off to see Simone one last time and give her the beads. Like, as though Mother Immaculatta would have planned for it all to happen while everyone was a church, everyone would come back and Simone would be gone and that would be the end of it.

I was so disappointed with the ending, it felt as though, when writing the film...the writer suddenly realised how late it was and finished it off in 30 seconds.

Such a good film, depressing and blank ending.

My sentiments exactly.

What head of a Private Religious School
calls the police when they catch the teachers
screwing around. That never happens.

Fire you. YES

Transfer You> Yes

Call The Police: NOT HARDLY

WHY NO POLICE? Because it leaves you
open to be sued. If you call the police
that means you concede something went on
that was improper, therefore you haven't got
a leg to stand on in court. The parents would
take you for millions.

I couldn't agree more with the majority here. A ritzy private school would NEVER summon outside authority for something like this, UNLESS the parent(s) found out and then only if the parent(s) raised the roof and couldn't be calmed down, and threatened to call the authorities themselves. And how often would that happen, in a "rich girls" school, with some rich parent's soon-to-be-socialite daughter involved in a lesbian sex scandal that will be in all the papers (like the alternate ending.) Never! That's how often.

Now, this teacher/student relationship was clearly wrong, and while we know the emotional reasons for it, there was still no moral excuse for Simone's breach of the student/teacher trust. To that end, she deserved to be punished, and would have, INTERNALLY, in the school system!

I'm starting to lean towards believing that this ending is a variation of the standard homophobic cop-out ending REQUIRED......as in carved in stone......in all gay/gay-themed films. Usually the lead character goes straight in the last five minutes, or dies, to pander to the right wing religious hypocrites.

“That’s been done before, you say!

No problem!

This time we'll get the "horrible older lesbian" arrested, and make it as spectacular as possible.”

I AGREE.

PLUS: I certainly would not have
had the teacher arrested, like I said earlier
If you are busting this teacher or humiliating
her, that means you do not like this character,
This was not a odious or mean spirited teacher.
What did she do so wrong to bring the wrath of
the Writer/Director down on her so very, very hard.

This puzzles me.

This is not real life, this is a movie. Therefore, the writer/director ended it the way they wanted to.

reply

I definitely see where you are coming from. But hey, it's a MOVIE. That's how it rolls. It's a sad romance, Simone is taken away. They were caught up in love and didn't have time to go to the beach house.... haha

i dont know if the age ? was answered but if not here goes... in the movie annabelle is supposed to be 17-18 the actress was 25 as for the teacher it was never said how old the character was but the actress was in her early 40's when she did the film... hope that helped

Thank God For Hollywood!

reply

I never would've guessed this actress is in her 40s. Man she's hot!

reply

The acting was below average, the script was pretty much non existant..there was no continuity throughout the movie, it was just one shor=ooort scene after another...everything just seemed so tense and awkward....The director is in my opinion a complete joke!
I find it hilarious that it took her three years to write the script! XD

Nonetheless, I like the movie, but mostly becasue I liked the characters and Simone was *beep* HOT! :o

reply

Uh if annabelle was 18 thy wouldn't have called the police cos it wouldn't be illegal right. so i guess 17. what is the legal age in america? where im from its 16. simone im guessing maybe 35

hey, yoda needs to give some better advice, or yoda needs to shut the *beep* up

reply

In America, legal age varies state by state and it’s pretty screwy. Usually it’s between 18-21 for legal age of consent to sign a contract, and 21 in all states is the age required to buy a drink. But then you have to be 16 to get married on your own say-so in most states. I know my state allows 15 with parental consent.

When it comes to having sex however, it really runs the spectrum, with two states as low as ten (YES, 10 years old!) for consensual sex which is determined by the states statutory rape limit. Pretty sick, but the guy can't be nailed with statutory by the 10 year old girl's parents as long as she willingly said yes.

There's no national continuity to the whole mess and it gets pretty weird when you think about it. In one state, you can have sex at 10, get married at 16, buy a car on your own say-so at 18, and drink a beer at 21. Another state, you can't do anything until 21.

We are long overdue!

reply

man thats weird. 21 is way too old a drinking age IMO. but legal sex age in most states is like18 right?

either way Simone shouldnvt been chRGED, THERE NO WAY that annabelle wS TOO young to consent to sex.

Your post is a lie! There is not a single state in the U.S. that legally permits sex and/or marriage of any minor under the age of 13. There are a few states where a person convicted of statutory rape of minors under age 13 and/or 14, can get the death penalty. I suggest you educate yourself and read the Age of Consent laws...for every state.

Simone was sexually abusing a teenager in her charge. Ask yourself if your feelings would be different if it were an adult male teacher and minor female student in this situation or an adult male teacher with a minor male student.

it was more like Annabelle as the more dominant one and taking all the charge, but of course nobody else involved in this mess are gonna see it that way

I agree that a private school like that wouldn't call the authorities so quickly, but perhaps there had been previous instances and Mother whatsherface had had enough?

I think the story is supposed to be a tragedy, though. I don't think it's meant to have a happy ending because it's not that type of film. It's the same kind of thing in a lot of festival films- the endings are sad and depressing, but it's meant to show you something.

I, personally, just like to imagine that they didn't have enough evidence so had to release Simone, who met Annabelle at some secret place and they escaped together, and Simone worked as a photographer and they lived happily ever after in some foreign country, lol. I refuse to believe that she went to prison.

reply

agree! LMAO, I pretty much figured out, when I was actually 18, how a situation
like Simone/Annabelle could have worked out with a happy ending! Sorry, folk's,
won't be sharing That info over here 'cause I do have some morals.

What's the alternate ending?

Forgive me for not leaping for joy, bad back, you know.
