THE LONE RANGER

WHO IS THIS ALPON77 CREEP? FOR YOUR INFO., CHAD MURRAY IS A REAL MAN! YOU ARE JUST JEALOUS. AND, I DONT HAVE TO SEE YOU TO KNOW YOU ARE NOT AS GOOD-LOOKING OR TALENTED. HE LOOKS NOTHING LIKE ANY BACKSTREET BOY, AND HE IS AN ACTOR NOT A SINGER, GET IT STRAIGHT. I THINK YOU ALREADY FELL AND HIT YOUR HEAD. WE DONT LIVE BACK IN TIME. THIS IS A NEW GENERATION OF COWBOY FANS. WE NEED TO UPDATE THINGS AND MOVE WITH THE TIMES TO KEEP THEM EXCITING. AND, YES HE IS SEXY IN ANY TIME PERIOD. HE IS A GREAT ACTOR,THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE IVE SEEN IN YEARS, AND THE STORY WAS VERY INTERESTING. MY WHOLE FAMILY AND ALL MY FRIENDS LOVED IT.

reply

"YES HE IS SEXY IN ANY TIME" NOT! he would have been called allot of things and one being fag. HE is not a malely man.

Updating it for a new fans of cowboys? Well yes and no. The only one was a little "funny" with all the white. It is nice that he is in more realistic colors but it would be nice to see him in realistic clothes too.

It is going to be cheese TV show but then again what WB show is not? To much Teany bopper show for a real network. But of the WB or UPN it will work. To bad they couldn't make it a little more manly and not all for the females. What about us Guys out here?

reply

Are you *beep* kidding me. Change the western for a new generation?are you retarted you cant change a classic genre and character becuz teen boppers like you say so. Not only were the costumes, choreography, and Plot lines completely wrong,THE ACTING WAS HORRIBLE. It makes people like clint eastwood sorry he ever had hope in the western. So by the way when Chad murray is an unknown un able to get work do to this massive flop. So angie wutever the hell your name is shut up and get off respectable peoples message boards.

Okay whats with all the hostility? Personally i think the movie rocked, plain and simple. And whats with people putting Chad Murray down because hes a looker? Insecure much? Who give a krud what he looks like? Thats just another form of prejedice, and i think its pretty ignorant to dismiss someone because of their looks. It tells me youre jealous if thats your reason for not liking the movie or him. If you can't watch something and enjoy it because ''the clothes arent right'' or ''its a girly tv show'' or ''the star is too hot'' then you shouldnt even have a tv. The plot was great, acting was fab, scenery was geogeous, and it was all-round very entertaining. Furthermore, Its so much better then many shows out there now that i think that this will be welcome change from what we're used to. I personally will be looking for it come fall. And if everything about the show bothers you so much then dont watch it, no one is forcing you, to each thier own, ya know. That's all i have to say about that. Well, for now. . . :)

Yeah, uh, nice subject-name for the discussion thread, really narrows it down.

Anyway... I'm not attacking Chad Michael Murray, except for his ill portrayal of an expected manliness of the Lone Ranger. The real culprits I'm at odds with here are the casting crew. I will admit, yes, I AM jealous. I'm jealous that he's getting rich and famous (compared to me anyway) and all he has to do is keep his androgynous appearance. I mean, I feel cheated by how society has raised me to commit to one gender identity (that being 'male') so as not to confuse the ladies and maybe even be attractive to them, but it seems to be the case that what the little girls are wanting (or being 'taught' to want) are the pretty, pretty, cutsie sissy-boys (or "hot", as you girls put it) that Mr. Murray seems to exemplify.

Now I realize that the WB has been casting actors like this from the get-go, and it's never bothered me because I never watch them, but they're really taking some artistic license (overstepping their bounds, that is) when they resurrect a masculine-idolized hero from our TV/radio history of westerns and turn it into their newest 'backstreet boy'. Like I said before, I would understand it if they called it "The Young Lone Ranger" but I think it would still tick off a lot of old-school fans because a lot of things were changed, like his name and history.

A new generation of cowboys? What is that supposed to mean? Cowboys don't get to carry over into a new generation! They are timeless and they belong in the "Old West". To modernize a period in our history is paradoxical by its very nature. And the Old West is not a place for new garage bands to promote their wannabe Top 40 hit (ok, ok, some of them are good but the fact still stands). Don't be surprised if you find Britney Spears guest starring in an episode and introducing this strange "pop-rock" music to the natives.

I'm straying here, as I'm sure I could write all night about all of the things I find objectionable about this remake, so I'm just going to stick to my original subject -- The Lone Ranger was a "man". A "man's man", mind you. A much feared, avenger of justice. He was never cute. Yeah, yeah, I know times have changed, it's what the girls want (and who am I to argue that), but keep in mind that this is the southwest region of North America during the nineteenth century. This is a very unforgiving setting for anyone. Now you take someone who looks anywhere remotely as "cute" or as "hot" as Mr. Murray and throw him into this rugged no-man's land, and you'll be sure see him bent over a saddle 'squealing' the William Tell Overture before the opening credits can even run.

Of course, I can't tell you or anyone to not love it. I mean, it's just a matter of opinion. I'm just trying to be conservative as to seeking some bit of dignity that the original Lone Ranger is worthy of; I'm just trying to be objective as to seeking SOME bit of realism in this western farce... not that the old westerns were historically accurate but at least they were all fearsome leathery men... I mean, come on... that's at least a fact. And kung-fu? Ok, I know the art of Kung Fu pre-dates the Colombian contact, but Chinese railroad workers were... oh, why beat a dead horse.

Further to your comments, I think you are right it is what "girls want". And by girls we are talking 14 year olds and under. His whole appearance in this film is non threatening in a sexual way by the very nature of the fact that he is androgynous and thats probally what the networks want nowdays - that way they don't offend anyone.

In the same way as the fashion industry encourages women to look like boys, the film industry seems to be promoting boys. What happened to men and women?

As an additional point, are we as an audience supposed to believe that the lone ranger who looked as though a gust of wind would blow him over could put down all of those men. I think I could of taken him out with a swift right hook and I'm a 40+ female!!

I live in denmark and would just like to say that your reply (alapon77) to angie-whatever says it all. It's not about jealousy or some pitty insecurity. It's pure and simple about quality. I can't make you like or dislike this movie, but I can remind you that is a place to state your opinion. Kinda funny people get so offended in "the land of the free". So much for freedom of speech hu? Anyways, this movie did not do any good for me at all. It is obviously targetted for people ten years younger than me. I'm 25 by the way. I think that these movies really speaks down to people. Its like they are saying "Oh, I know that we could make a great movie about this legend, buuuttt it would probably take more than a week to do and I have a manicure waiting for me", and letting the intern doing the rest. I don't know if you like it, good. Then something good came out of this.
