english and other foreign language subtitles on dvd

this is another film that i bought abroad (in italy to be exact) and that has no foreign subtitles (apart from italian, which i don't know why are given if it is meant to be only regional relase for natives). what is the policy of dvd distributors if they do not use this very helpful option? please anyone having subtitles for this film (in english, french or polish) to drop me a line on how to get these...

thank you in advance

An English subtitle exists for this film, but I don't know where it came from. I got it at the library.

Just to clear up some confusion:
The Italian DVD release has Italian subtitles for the hard of hearing, which is a _very_ useful feature if you are a native Italian with a hearing impediment.

If you wonder why there were no subtitles in other languages; that is mostly for financial reasons. Acquiring the rights to put different languages on a DVD is more expensive for a distributor. Even more so if they have to create the subtitles themselves. That's why one doesn't find all possible languages on all DVD releases of the same film.

It _is_ annoying, but that's the way it is.

I can translate entirely the film in english, spanish or portoguese, if you're interested. I loved this film, it will be very pleasant to me
