5 in 10 stars - mediocre and unconvincing film

The story and the movie are mediocre. But I'm not surprised the Academy nominated it for Best Foreign Film in 2004 - it is the archetypal Hollywood melodramatic film. There is far, far better European cinema though it does not "shine" at the Oscars. See Cannes!

I'm absolutely not defending the Academy, but Cannes are just a bunch of pretentious arrogant hypocritical twats (love the city though).
