how long to learn those moves? dancers out there?

How long do you think it took jessica, or any of 'em, to learn those moves? Are there any dancers out there? i want to know how long do you get to learn from the choreographer...if you're a pro, do you get it quickly, or do you still have to practice over and over and over?.... i really want to know, so I may know whether I should give up dancing...it takes me a while to learn all those steps and remember one after the next...(but it IS fun! esp. when you're on stage!)

Well, if you watch the behind the scenes stuff on the DVD special features extras and whatnot, it took her a few months to get all the routines down and perfect for shooting
but with an instructor and whatnot, i could learn singular routines in about two hours depending on how fast they were teaching the choreagraphy

I'm dancing for 6 years now :)
It takes a while until you learn all this dance moves, it needs a lot..a lot of practice.

you have to know how to dance first of all

Well, there is one advantage to being me. Something you can never imitate, having you for a friend.

In the commentary track on the DVD, Jessica makes a point to say that a real dancer *could* pick up a sequence as quickly as Honey does in her first video scene. I guess some people made comments that she couldn't have picked it up that quickly in that scene, but in fact, real good dancers can.

hey i've been dancing for a while ...&&& over the years you learn to pick up routines quickly. but to memorize multiple routines like that would take a lot longer compared to one routine ........ however based on the dance steps it shouldn’t have taken more then a month or 2 to have done it well.

&&& it always helps to have some dance background

Well, it'd take me a few hours with a personal instructor to polish one routine. But for all of them, and with one instructor to so many dancers, it'd take a lot longer.

YO YO YO! The end is nigh!

It depends on your speed. If you are a fast learner, you could do those moves in a few hours. If not, it will take a few weeks.

What about the moves in You Got Served or Step Up? You have to be a real dancer right? There's no way a normal people.. like people who never dance before can do it..?

Better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven.

I work in a production group, similar to the one Honey ran except there are way more of us and it's mostly adults with only about 25 kids. It takes me one day (about 7 hours) to choreograph all the dancers for one song. Starting off slow and then speeding up. The key is simple...practice the first 8 counts over and over again, then move onto the next 8 counts and practice over and over again and then put the two together. I don't like to go back because that's when people get confused. You can imagine how long it takes to put so many counts together at the end but half way through the song, they know every step and could do it in their sleep. As for being able to do the moves in step up without being a trained dancer, as long as you have a certain level of flexibily, you could learn those moves in a day but you would have to work with a professional because they are hard to master and you could easily get hurt. A lot of the guys who come to our group are complete amatuers but we kindof fast track them because they're not looking for grades or dance trophys. They just want to perform. It's hip hop and it's as much about poise and structure as ballet, just a lot more free (for beginners) I can teach people who have never danced before to dance the way Honey does and I've never experienced someone not able to pick it up. It's all about the way you teach.
That said, I do have to teach the amateurs and the more experienced separately for the same song as, it's true they do pick it up a lot quicker. They're used to finding the rythm quicker and can follow steps because they're trained in 'counts.' But at the end of the day, they all dance to the same song. Hope this helps. If you need any more info, lemme know.

This is for the FROG! WHACK!

Well said its all about the "8 Count" practicing that over and over then the next 8 count
however the way Honey learned that routine at the end in 2 seconds is impossible I aint never seen anybody learn a routine in 2 seconds then be able to perform it perfect the next is astronomical
