Jessica Alba trying to be down was so annoying

My god, it made me cringe every time.

reply

My God, you need to get a life.

reply

yeah get a life u sad sod
Jessica Alba is a great dancer and great actor

reply

I have a life thank you teenqueen, and shoesgirl I never said she wasn't a good dancer and actor I just said her trying to be all ghetto just didn't work for her. It's probably not her fault, I'd blame her dialogue coach.

reply

She was the only good actor in the movie.

reply

What about Mekhi?

reply

Jessica Alba is beautiful and yes she can dance and act but her trying to be down wasn't believable. She sounded fake, it just didn't sound right and was unconvincing.Whe she was like 'He's my peoples'trying to sound down my toes were curling. Has anyone noticed she talks like that in Dark Angel too. Alba seems nice and is a good actress but if the makers of the movie wanted to make it more realistic they should ahve cot a girl who could talk ghetto convincingly or just make Alba drop that silly accent.

reply

I was trying to think of some of the lines in the movie which made me cringe most but I couldn't remember any.
But "He's my peoples.".......that was pretty bad!

reply

No, for me it was "Their flava's hot!" THAT made me cringe, big time. And I'm not even ghetto but I hear a lot of it, and that was just so bad. i love Jessica Alba, and she was good in this movie (more so dancing than acting, what with the script and all) but it just didn't work.

They broke up because of religious differences. He thought he was God and she disagreed.

reply

I haven't seen Honey, but I am a big Dark Angel fan. The reason she was talking like that in Dark Angel is because they wanted the hip-hop scene to be a big thing in it, which is why all of the music is hip-hoppish.

People and their stereotypes, I tell ya.

reply

Get it straight, this film's got nothing to do with hip hop culture. This is commercial rap j-lo flashdance wannabee i don't know! All the rappers and people involved in this pile of *beep* should be ashamed of themselves!A big *beep* you goin out to all in this film!!oh yeah "your flavour's hot"LOL

reply

I think that alba was 'ok' when it came to talking, I'm not saying she was great or anything but the director person annoyed me even more!!!

I mean, come on, he looked like the friggin milkybar kid or something!!! Blondish curlyish h.air an all.

He did annoy me so much more.

Mekhi (spelling?) should have been used more though. He's turning out to be a good actor, I think.

reply

Or we could just teach young people that "acting ghetto" isn't a goal they should seek. This story is no less of a sacarin gallop through faux-urban jungle because of her speech patterns.

reply

agreed. all the rest of the cast was predictable and mundane.

reply

ONe things to be beautiful and another thing is trying to be down which she cant and also made me cringe... she cant dance...she cant act...she cant be down

reply

all of you people are saying how bad this movie and then giving quotes on what you found bad. if i dont like a movie i do the normal thing and turn it off i dont make notes then come an write something about it and write the quotes down that i thought were bad. i secretly think that you like it but you just dont want to admit it because yeh it is a movie that you probly dont go around shouting about and telling all of you mates that you like it... like i like to justin from kelly or to kelly from justin whatever its called.... i probably shouldnt and im from England so yeh i shouldnt like it at all but i do....sorry

not really, I think you teenqueen772 need to get a freakin life, actually more likely teenanus772

Good geezus, I totally agree. Now, there's no doubt in my mind that Jessica Alba is one lovely-looking female specimen... but by god, 'Honey' was just one camp, lame moment after another. Great dancing though... however more unimpressive they get after re-screens. But, seriously, if I wanted to watch a movie with awesome dance sequences and crappy acting, I'd watch 'You Got Served'. At least the dancing in that movie gives me my money's worth so I don't feel so robbed.

And... dude... "We just peoples"... "Their flavour's hot"... everytime Jesse put on her 'street voice' I just crinnnnged, it was so bad. Some actors and actresses can put on that sort of attitude in a movie convincingly when they act differently in real life or vice versa (Mekhi is an example), but its a real pity that Jessica Alba couldn't pull it off, since she's at the forefront of everything in this film. With Joy Bryant, the actress who played Honey's best friend 'Gina', her performance as a 'down' chick was easy to swallow because it looked and sounded natural. Mekhi and Joy were the best performances in the film, I thought. Jessica had the look, the expressions, but the voice... Ouch, no.

So, yes... Jessica's gorgeous in the movie, the dance moves are adequate but BY GOD, why did the director keep so much urban phrases in the script - couldn't he have heard the awkwardness in his actress as he watched each take? If we picked up on it, surely he would've, right?

I agree, Jessica Alba is not at all fluent in "Ebonics".

I hated her so much when Dark Angel was on, because she was forced to talk the same way for that show and it just didn't work, in fact NO ONE on Dark Angel could talk like that, but they were forced to by the Director/Writer.

I've since forgiven Alba for her association with Dark Angel, and my sweet lord she is gorgeous! But she is completely incapable of speaking "street".

I agree with Fennel. Did you ever stop to think that maybe that is how they wanted to portray her character? I dont think that the director was stupid. If he wanted someone who could be down for real im sure he would have thought twice about choosing Jessica Alba. i mean give the girl props dont hate. Yes she may have not sounded like she was down but that might have been what they wanted. A nice street girl growing up in the hood trying to be down. I they wanted to they could have had "Gina" to play Honey. I'm she can dance just as well. But that is not what they wanted. If Honey was a down ghetto chick then the movie wouldn't have made any sense. Honey was a nice girl trying to be something in life.

reply

Amen! I totally agree with lillinky2.

reply

If "Gina" had played Honey, they wouldn't have had the big name that drew in all the dinero, so I doubt if they wanted a down chick they would've cast her for it. Jessica Alba is just an actress everyone wants to see.

reply

I feel ya on that one.

How can you possibly defend her performance in this movie? I am not denying that she can act (most of us saw sin city) but she was ridiculous in this film...rubbish...utter boring rubbish. The only thing that kept me watching the film was for my hopeless hope that it might actually get better....i was sorely displeased.

Her ghetto talk was not only cringe worthy...it was it was as lame as the people who actually exited the theatre/dvd and proclaimed with red rosy cheeks and a big gaping smile that 'THIS WAS THE BEST FRIGGIN FILM EVER' whilst mindlessly curling their pretty blonde hair in a fit of giggles.

It annoyed me the way jessica alba was talking.it sounded sooo fake! Jennifer lopez should of been cast for this movie.

reply

the worst line in the movie is when the video director guy goes, "damn, why you gotta play me like that b****!" you just look at him and you think, what the hell??, he's the goofy looking kid from Big, and you just cant believe it all...

reply

[deleted]

yess you are verrryy right...very ugly the way she was trying to talk all ghetto!! hehe kinda like in you got served..the sister lia woow was that horrible

reply

yeah the bottom line is yeah, the street talk was totally not her...made go "uhhgh" whenever i heard it. you can't deny that... this was just a hollywood clean up the act every so often type of movie, but they knew what they were making, cringing audiences and all. in fact, everyone's dialogue in the movie was wack, everyones, it should be obvious since this is a PG-13 film. on another note, damn that alba, she is as fine as ever.

reply

I wasn't sure about the streets talk at first but it grew on me, she was ok plus she lived in a black community so they caninfluence the way she talk.

reply

Ummmm, no....Jessica Alba is ghetto. She likes all that ghetto crap. Just like all the other people who really wrap their entire lives into the whole hip hop, ghetto culture...it's because they have no identity and don't know themselves, so they latch on to this stupid, rediculous fad. Jessical Alba is no different. She is ghetto. She wants to be ghetto. And she thinks it's cool to be ghetto. Even if she can't pull it off.

The sad fact is, some of these girls never outgrow it. They'll be in their 30's and dressing ghetto, listening to hip hop and looking stupid, while the other 30 year olds will laugh at them asking, aren't you suppose to grow out of that s**t by the time your like 15 ?
