Awesome DVD!

I just got the DVD from Filmbaby.com, and if anyone has been debating dropping the cash for it... it's definitely worth it. For one thing the menus are awesome, they're even more high quality than most big studio DVD releases. It has the film, commentary, "pop-up" info, short sequels the filmmakers did (like a Neil Diamond concert in the same parking lot 10 years later!) interviews and more stuff than you'd ever think possible for a 16 minute movie made on public access tv equipment.

I thought it was a pretty awesome DVD too.

The "knock-offs" (parodies and imposters etc) stuff was very forgettable but that's not the film maker's fault that American Hi-Fi are awful.

The "Dub-o-vision" is pretty cool - that shows what a 10th generation video bootleg looks like. I don't own many DVDs that bother with the multi-angle capabilities of DVD.

The Scene Selection feature is pretty well done.

Other than the main documentary, the things I enjoyed the most were the footage of the history of the Capital Centre after HMPL, including its destruction and the interviews with the "alumni" of HMPL. I'm glad the Dokken chick is still hot and into metal. I wish there were more alumni interviews but I sense the filmmakers wanted it to be roughly the same length as HMPL. I was hoping they'd have tracked down the Florida girl and the DC101 guy who "sings" "Living After Midnight". Considering the filmmakers comment that they found the "Hell! Party!" girl, I would have liked to see how her hair is 20 years later.

Yes, I agree, this needed way more alumni updates. Also, I was disapointed they never really got good footage of the now uptight Zebraman watching HMPL for the first time. How funny is it that he had never seen it?

reply

I agree the DVD really kicks ass its absolutely loaded with stuff and goodies,
I would love it for them to have pushed Zebraman a bit more on why he had become so shy and uncomfortable but i guess in a poetic way it made the entire thing even more funny and interesting.

I got to see the DVD I want to see what happen to some of these losers.

Any other sites I could get the DVD?

This DVD, like pretty much any other DVD ever produced is available on Amazon.

"Belief is the Death of Intelligence" - Robert Anton Wilson

I just noticed at Amazon that they have two different listings. One is approx. $12 and says run time is 17 minutes, which is obviously the version that's been around for years and years.

Then there's also a $25 DVD that says 120 minutes. Anyone know what's up with that? It doesn't say anything about extra features.

What's the scoop on the longer one?
