A movie for the gay crowd

I'm as opened minded as the next person, but after watching it, only the gay crowd could enjoy this camp. Someone said in this forum that the acting is excellent...hogwash...Its a spoof, and it is not easy to get excellent acting out of such a premise...one has to be highly skilled to achieve that.

I am straight and LOVE this movie. And as for being highly skilled to achieve that comment, this movie won multiple awards at Sundance, so apparently, once again, this post was started by someone who apparently knows nothing about Charles Busch, nothing about the movies and the style of acting he is paying homage to, and nothing about acting (and I am an actor who has had the honor of working with Charles Busch and others over my 15 years in the business).

I'm gay, and I thought this movie was a total snooze with very weak performances, a failed attempt at a campy, John Waters-type film. So I'm in your crowd, not whatever "gay crowd" you're referring to. I prefer to judge films on their merits rather than making assumptions about the audience.

Please open your mind.

I am a 55 year old straight woman, and I bought the DVD after seeing it on Sundance.

I loved it.

I am gay and I loved this movie, but I'd hate to think that you'd have to be gay to appreciate it.

For sure, it's a draq queen's dream homage of all those overly-dramatic 1940's Joan Crawford flicks from the 1940's. But it's also an oddly compelling story in its own right. That is to say, it's funny and over-the-top, but it's so well done that you can't dismiss it entirely as a joke.

I'd say it's a nice combination of John Waters meets Todd Haynes. If you like the films made by those two directors, you will likely love this.

The cast is perfect. The dialogue is quotable (pray you ever get the chance to quote it). PLUS, this movie made me think that Jason Preistly is hot - no longer boyish, he so so much more appealing as a man -- I never really liked him before, but I thought he was perfect in this.

A minor miracle. I enjoyed it, and it left no permanent scarring.

Like others said it pays tribute to the olden campy films of Joan Crawford or Bette Davis. my Mom who is in her 60's got a kick out of it and also enjoyed "Psycho Beach Party". but she was alive when those type of campy films were popular. I'm gay but but I think alot of people could enjoy the film.
