clones

I watched the film without subtitles and my German's not great so I may have missed this but if Siri is a clone of Iris, wouldn't she get M.S as well?

reply

No, before she had the child she made sure it wasn't hereditary. There was a scene where she was on the phone with Martin where she made sure. I'm not sure if in real life MS is hereditary, but in this sci-fi universe it doesn't have to obey the facts.

They don't know the cause of MS, but there is no evidence at this time it is hereditary.

It is thought to be an autoimmune disease (where the body attacks itself). MS is where the body attacks the myelin sheaths on nerves. This causes scarring "sclerosing" of the myelin and interferes with the transmission of impulses down the nerve fibres.

I found it slightly disappointing that Iris didn't really show any signs of the disease affecting her performance, just the odd hint of a walking stick etc.

I know the MS wasn't the main focus of the movie, but as it was a major factor in her deciding to clone herself I thought they could have put a little more effort in.

Also would like to point out that MS is unlikely to shorten a persons life-span significantly. People can live 90-95% of their lifespan, especially if they are receiving treatment, as Iris obviously was.

Loved this movie though, only saw it last night on TV in Australia. Was very interesting and beautiful to watch.
