Burt Ward / alcohol ?

In the flashback scene when Ward buys his first house, Adam West presents him with a bottle. Ward says something like "Is that champagne? Because you know..." and West interrupts, assuring him that it's just sparkling cider.

Does anyone know what "the issue" is/was? Does/did Ward not drink? Moral objection? Alcoholic background? Other?

Clearly, the issue was relevant/important enough to put in the script, but not fleshed out.

He's said that he never smoked, drank or used drugs. He's never said why, but he's said many times that he's pretty consevative so maybe that's why.

I think the reason might've been that he was underage. Since his birthday was July and the show premiered in January, he might've felt weird about drinking alcohol before he was officially of the legal drinking age.

That's assuming that the legal drinking age in the U.S. at that time was 21 and not lower.
