Couples

By so far,Jack and Sam were together, then Sam and Martin, then again Jack and Sam (leaving Martin alone), then Danny and Elena. What I want to know how come Martin,Sam and Jack stayed such good friends in that love triangle.... I mean,I would be so jealous.... + I don't like how Sam plays with both Martin and Jack. She should not get involved with two of her colleagues in the first place.

Just a heads-up, there's spoilers in my post from the last episode of season seven.

Everything they did with Sam's character after season two was just total soap opera style relationship drama. It's a real shame because I loved her in seasons one and two. Ya know I even liked her in season three, but I seriously started to wish they'd kill her off in season five and couldn't stand her by season seven, it was just too much.
As for the love triangle I'm right there with you, I don't get how everyone was so accepting, it's like if you're going to take the soap opera route why not go all out? And I just don't get why they did it, and especially why they had her get back with Jack and then break up with him to work things out with Brian.
As for Danny and Elena that was just terrible writing, one episode they're hooking up then the writers completely ignore that storyline for like an entire season? And then out of nowhere they're getting married?
Jeez, this show really went downhill with all the relationship drama.

When friends come together closeness from the heart is strong enough to hold, even if far apart.

I agree with you bluedaisy completely. Its like you were reading my mind. People think RS destroyed this show; I don't really agree. I think the constant focus on who Samantha was sleeping with really destroyed this show.

I personally never cared for the character, but I can see why other viewers hoped to like her character or did actually enjoy the character in the beginning of the series (when the writing was at least plausible.)

I think Samantha monopolized the show well before Season 7, but yes, Season 7 was the worst.

Throughout the series, there were so many specific "special" episodes dedicated to Samantha's "growth" as a character, that the rest of the cast got nothing.

Totally unrealistic how J/M were all so accepting of both of them sleeping with her.

Samantha was an absolute joke in her "personal life". I don't understand how any long time viewer could enjoy that character onscreen as the show progressed. Samantha was so ridiculous. Poor Brian; I think Jack lucked out at the end.

I agree too. I though, in the beginning, Samantha's character was a strong woman working in a male dominted environment and holding her own. Her personal life was a mess and trying to guess what was going on in her backgr9und was intriguing.

But as time went on, IMO, it became absurd. What was her big secret? She killed a man. This was handled very unrealistically. The writers could have taken any number of roads to explain her problems with men and they could have been paths that could explain her in a way that you wanted to root for her. I think that is where it fell apart for me with Samantha.

And, as with other storylines, it was never mentioned again. It just went away. But her issues did not and they became, for me, very tiring to watch. I don't thinkher character grew at all. She was just a pain in the A**!

and,the last 2 seasons were the worst. She was no longer a strong, capable FBI agent. She became a pitiful mess. Having a baby was so out of character, I think it really started the demise of the quality. Did anyone care bout Brian? Not me. I think, after reading the interviews about why the show was cncelled, it is clear that after the 5th season when CBS took over, it all went to pieces.

I think they were hiring young writers to write stories and words for characters that were no longer in their 20's oe even 30's and it showed.

That was so bad, so completely terrible. Even as a person who liked Sam (through season three at least) I was upset at how little was shown of the other characters and their backgrounds and lives outside of work.
Other shows (yeah apples and oranges... but the oranges didn't get canceled) have a fairly equal amount of character driven episodes for their characters, not WAT, if it didn't involve Sam and Jack then it didn't get put in an episode.
Think of the character driven episode for other characters; Shadows (Martin) it seems centered around him, but come on, Sam comes in on a weekend to help him solve a case involving his aunt and I feel we saw more of her develop than him. Not to mention that through the entire episode Jack was having his own personal storyline with his father. Then you have the arc with Martin's drug use, again it's about Sam helping him realize he needs help. Viv gets heart surgery, Sam and Martin break up, her (tiny) arc was totally overshadowed by Sam's relationship drama... I dunno maybe I'm reading too much into it but I feel like even when another character got their own episode that it always turned back into the Sam/Jack show.

I totally agree with that, why would the writers even take that road? Seriously just shove some file folders in front her for crying out loud. And really, she wasn't even pregnant the majority of the time they were filming, she wore the fake pregnant belly in almost every episode where she's shown as being pregnant. And as for making Brian the father... well I just don't know, but considering who the actor was I'm gonna say it's pure nepotism.

IMO, you are not reading too much into anything. I've wondered about what pull, if any, PM had behind the scenes. The whole series revolved around her character. ALP pull is obvious, but PM's I wondered about since the beginning of season 2 when her character was the constant focal point of the show.

Come on, MJB was nominated for an Oscar....and she got virtually no screen time and only one or two personal storylines.

yes, and By the time the writers strike ended, the actress had already given birth.
The pregnancy could have been avoided by putting her behind a desk or writing the character out for a few episodes if they thought she was too big.

The pregnancy storyline destroyed the show IMO.

I agree with you about the nepotism part for sure.

As much as I didn't like the personal relationship thing, I think it might have been more interesting to see some conflict between Jack and Martin and Sam. And Sam would grow up and make her choicce whatever that would be. Both Jack and Martin could be counsel to her. I would have prefered this to adding more characters who meant nothing to me and taking the childish route they took.

I would rather have seen the relationship amongst the original 5 team members.
