Why are these people on the show?

So many contestants lately are embarrassingly ignorant--don't know stuff any reasonably intelligent fifth grader could answer. One wonders why they think they have any chance of winning on the show. Perhaps the producers weed out those who are smarter, but it still is puzzling to think these contestants think they belong on Millionaire. Yesterday a young woman used her lifelines on three questions that she knew the answer to, but "wasn't sure," then walked on a question she also knew the answer to. I don't even think it was lack of self confidence, just mental confusion.

How often has anyone been able to answer any questions in the right classic Millionaire section? Hardly ever. Those questions are extremely obscure. They should rename the show," who wants to win up to 60 thousand dollars!"

Those are the people who passed the test to be on the show. Once on the air, they may have the odd brain hiccup.

I think the main thing is they start doubting themselves once on the show and don't want to embarrass themselves by getting an easy question correctly. Also too many don't think about the answer logically and just don't have a clue to the answer so they panic and start using lifelines.
