Why do so many contestants have an acting background?

Today they had Paul Rouffa on. Had minor roles in different shows plus he was a Jeopardy winner, Scrabble winner and a few other game shows. Just about every person I look up that is on WWtbaM has an acting background. Seems odd.

I also notice that sometimes the "Plus One" in the audience is a former contestant from the show! Yeah, the pool seems very small for some reason. Maybe only a few people pass the criteria (IQ test, personality, etc.). I imagine out-of-work actors have a lot of time on their hands and are motivated to get the exposure. They probably try out over and over...

Based on how dumb some of the contestants are lately, it seem like they only take those that do bad on the test so they don't have to give away much money.

The last time I passed the test, the interview was so focused on personality that I'm not surprised that professional performers have an edge.

I remember in the old days actors used to get exposure by going on game shows. I saw Vanna White as a contestant on "The Price is Right", Kirstie Alley was on "Password", and Jenny Jones was on "Press Your Luck".

Aaron Paul was also on The Price is Right.

I saw that but was he an actor at that time?

Yes. His first onscreen credit is from 1998. He appeared on The Price is Right 2 years later.
