Frankfort, KY?

Just saw an episode which evidently originally aired Sept. 21, 2016--and one answer is driving me nuts! I'm sure the question was which state's capital was named after a Frenchman who assisted the U.S. during the Revolutionary War. I think contestant took the 50/50, so he was left with WV and KY. He ruled out WV (as capital is Charleston, probably named after the British King Charles II) and went with KY. But the capital of KY is Frankfort. Depending on which story you believe, it was originally called Frank's Ford, for a settler (from where??) who was killed by Indians in 1780. The other story claims it was named in honor of Frankfurt, Germany. So where does a Frenchman come in???? I'm thinking I completely misunderstood something!

The question was about the state's largest city, not its capital, and Louisville is easily the largest city in Kentucky.
