He walks to the beach followed by the USC camera guy, looks like he is going to kill himself, then says, "How the hell am I going to pay all of those credit cards off."

I was half asleep, but I'm pretty sure that's right.

Yeah thats right.
But what I like about the film is the transition of the character and trying to find the moment where he decides his life is not so bad and life is worth living.
I am thinking the elevator scene. His family and friends and strangers who had an interest in him attempted to talk him out of it, but the scene in the elevator where the lady says she remembered him. He barely acknowledges the compliment she gives like the previous other compliments from other people, but when she goes out of her way to give him money, without asking him why and just leaves him standing...that was an awesome scene and unlike any of the others.

Yup, he just wanted someone who didn't feel obligated to help to reach out. The whole time it was friends/family/crew, and it always seemed like they were going through the motions trying to help him, and that even then it wasn't until he tracked them down (remember them not returning calls). Until the lady in the elevator, as you said.

The other turning point was when Stu finds out his girlfriend was cheating on him. That's when Paul realized maybe he doesn't have it so bad.

A good movie, especially on Rudd's part. However I feel as though the director made it almost TOO personal at times, and that certain scenes didn't make sense except in his case...just my 2 cents...
