The dad should have known better than to think that he could raise a kid at 15. He's going to be flipping burgers his whole life, IMHO. Same with the girl from "Saved."

reply

I think this boy wont, because he was very intelligent. His parents will stand him by, so he can still have a proper education and be succesfull. That's what this movie is about, making up for your mistakes, even if you are 15 years old.

I would have to respectfully disagree. I have seen many teen parents get wonderful jobs, as lawyers, peditrictians, and their children blossom into wonderful people. I know these children will grow up to be wonderful adults.
Many adults don't take as good of care of their kids as some teens do. It's all in the person. Not the stereotype. I'm above that. Quite a few people are. Who's to say working in the fast food industry is bad? I know it can be hard to support a family on such small wages, but he would get through. I never understood why some people think it's their place to tell a fellow person how bad their life is! he has a wonderful support system, many teens do. He also has someone who loves him very, very much. A beautiful child to share his life with. Thats one of the greatest blessings in life!

reply

I stand by my beliefs, but you do make good points.

reply

"has a wonderful support system, many teens do."

Many teens do. Many teens who GET PREGNANT don't. Hence, why the do in the first place. They don't have that support system to educate them on the consequences of sexual activity at that young age.

"Who's to say working in the fast food industry is bad?"

Nothing's wrong with it. IF YOU'RE CORPORATE.
Minimum wage jobs to support a family, c'mon. Those who are 40 and working at Wendy's probably wish they'd NOT gotten pregnant, or gone to College, because they have to work overtime every week just to live. The cost of living goes UP, you know. What're your kids gonna feel like when they're in school, their friends have parents with secure jobs, nice homes, and you and your daughter are living in a one bedroom appartment filled with roaches?

Sure, you can tell them "It doesn't matter what anyone thinks" all they want, but when they hit their teen years, and all their friends are doing cool things, wearing cool clothes, they're going to feel the burden. And if they're not interacting with people, they won't develop the social skills neccesary for life...they'll be so focused on raising their kid, they won't concentrate and develop the discipline.

I stand by the first post. Kids should not be having sex at such a young age.
They're too immature to make the rational decisions, and make judgements based on hormones and peer pressure, and don't look into the future at all.

A FRIEND OF MINE IS A MANAGER OF BURGER KING AND HE IS IN HIS LATE 40S AND HE DOES WELL FOR HIMSELF AND HIS FAMILY AND HIS WIFE. HAVING MATERIAL THINGS ARE NOT THE ONLY THINGS IN LIFE. WHO WANTS TO RAISE A SPOILED CHILD.

reply

You are totally right about that deltaleeder! I'm also very against teen pregnancy, because in most cases the teenmoms choose to go this way, because they want to receive some love(what they don't get at home), try to bond a boy to them by having his child, and so on. But in the movie a boy is portrait who is willing to be a good father and still have an education, he is a smart kid that made a big mistake. He will probably succed in this, because he already showed to his parents that he has the ability(go to teenparents school, have a job to pay the parents back etc.) to fulfill the job as a dad.

everyone was a teenager once

I'm 15. I haven't have sex, but I think that when the time comes, I'll be doing it in a responsible way. I've got to say I'm very different from the other teenagers, specially because I never break a rule. I think they're made for a reason and lets face it, one pleassure night is not worth changing your life because of a baby when you are not ready to have it. Teenagers should think about consequences of their actions.

reply

You know you can even get pregnant with birth control right and accidents do happen? I think teenagers can make great parents. The negative attitude of people around them (they are to young to make the right decisions, they are stupid for not being careful etc.) are the things that break the young parents. It's not like only teenage parents will end up flipping burgers.

It's society that made being a young parent a problem. Stop being so narrow minded and respect the fact that some people accept their responsibilities. I applaud them!

Okay this is getting ridiculous when was there ever such a datable topic as pro- teen pregnancy? The controversy in this discussion is not stemming from is teen pregnancy good or bad, but why does it happen? When I would sometimes (when I was at home sick) watch all these lifetime movies about teen pregnancy (rape, etc. though this is not the point) you start getting wound up in it and think how unfair it was and how unlucky it is. Then I think to myself how could this have been prevented (bring myself back to reality) and the answer seems so simple! It only takes what like a couple of dollars to protect you from ruining your life (and no I’m am not discussing people who are teenage parents) But don't try to sell off this idea as a social norm. I am not questioning whether the person is bluntly "good or bad". More to the fact is how daft you can be. As well to those who might rebuttal me on this, for those people who do not get a good education let alone sex education, or were raped, or for whatever reasons why the contraception (whatever type was used) did not work this am not about them. And in today's society we are extremely lucky that (for now) this option when really thought about is so easy. (I say it's always better to use a condom or both; protect your health as well, and others). You can (at least in the first few months, days w/e after having sex), take the morning after pill (emergencies only should not be a substitute); which can be bought in drug stores, get an abortion (we are not debating this one right now, so lay off), wear a condom (best choice, least expensive, most guaranteed, prevents STD's), and use birth control pills (I would use both, w/e). Lastly, today we not only have better (not perfect, nothing is let alone perfect) sex education, (that is more open in today’s society than it ever was)(sometimes to a point to open) we have something (most people) that we are using now.... the Internet! I'm not talking about have fancy computers, but any kind of outlet to the World Wide Web. Which is just bursting with this info and advice, type of one topic and bam it's there.... (I don't need have people reply back to me with stories how I am wrong because I didn't adapt every lit bit of my explanation to every single person on the planet. Basically what I am saying is that for the majority this applies.) And I know everyone has different income, upbringings, etc. And that peer pressure is tough, but then again you can always say no. And if you did say no and this happen well...that falls into the group of outliers: rape, incest, etc.

And no this doesn't matter what age ethnicity or gender I am or background I come from to say if my opinion is VALIDATED, because this is a free country and people say it al the time without any remorse.
It does apply when I am being questioned of who I am and what my opinions are. But once again it's nurture vs. nature, and for some of us to be able to rise above and question what we were taught and know. A person once told me one of the most important things in my life, "There are so many things in this world, which if we just got them done our lives would be so much easier and all around better (different)."

This is in general, not exactly about the movie. (disclaimer if you will)

well teenagers dont normally plan wen they hav sex it just happens cuz were horny and going thru puberty so we dont noramlly think str8 and birth control is confusing and not many teens hav birth controls in there drawers or wallets or watever and no1 is reli gonna stop in the middle or in the process of gonna hav sex and say we shuld use a condom so ... cuz ... gosh guys was this a rhetrical question?? lol

reply

I'm practicing abstinence. It's the sure fire way not to get AIDS, HIV, STDs, and unplanned pregnancy. Besides this, everyone has the power to say no, and I know that some jerks ignore that fact and rape people, but that's why it's a crime. Just because the right thing to do isn't always easy, doesn't mean that one should do the wrong thing. I applaud those who take responsibility for their actions by dealing with the consequences (for boys, not abandoning their partner and child, and for girls and boys deciding to raise the child or put it up for adoption).

reply

I think that people that choose to ignore the fact that teenagers are going to have sex are the problem. Parents and teachers who open there eyes to this fact, accept it and educate teenagers about contraception and the dangers of infections and diseases are doing the best thing. However, people who stupidly choose not to eduate their kids for whatever reason or refuse to allow their kids to be taught sex education are the ones that will end up with pregnant teens.

Im 16 and am glad that my mum is open with me about sex and tells me of what i should do in the situation, and no she is not encouraging it in fact it has made me realise that i will not have sex until i know for sure that i am comletely ready and able to deal with the consequences.

reply

Just remember (for the parents) if you don't teach your child, and keep potting it off, they will not learn it with value, knowledge and respect, when someone else comes alone and takes that place of "teaching/and or preaching".
