Hello! Abortion!

I hate movies like this because they like to pretend abortion doesn't even frickin' exist. Give me a break. All this manufactured angst, while each and every character pretends the solution isn't simple, cut, and dried. The two kids didn't even have to tell their parents, they could've just taken care of it.

So it's okay to murder a living thing because some teens couldnt keep their pants on? Certainly sounds like an easy way out to me.

I'm a CB-ologist!

The girl was "too far along," according to the script. If she was having trouble fitting into her clothes, she was in her second trimester and too late for an abortion.

They absolutely did NOT pretend abortion doesn't even exist. It was mentioned at least twice. Once when Matt's father says something about "I hope they're planning on terminating this" and his mom says they're too far along. And once earlier I think during the family meeting Francesca's father says something about it. As far as whay you said about the kids not even having to tell their parents, I think a lot of the point of the movie was that Matt is a good kid. Whether or not abortion is right (and by the way, I AM pro-choice), I think the right thing to do when a KID is that age and has gotten into this kind of situation IS to tell their parents so that the parents--who likely have more knowledge and wisdom and life experience that will all help them make good decisions--can help them make the right decision.

The key word being HELP. Not like Francesca's parents who tried to make all the decisions for her, but like Matt's mom who DID want to help Matt. Seems to me like she was a very good mother who wanted to help her son.

While abortion IS an option (if the pregnancy hasn't advanced too far) it is not the ONLY option, and not always the RIGHT option. At least this movie DID mention it, if only to say why it was not an option in this situation. I may be wrong, but your post seems to imply that you think it is the only right option and that they are stupid for not having done it. And stupid for having gotten their parents involved instead of making such a serious decision as abortion without going to their parents.

They were kids. The parents SHOULD be involved.

Very true happy. Plus, in most states, minors cannot get abortions without parental consent or at least notification, and where is a kid that age going to get the money for an abortion anyway?

reply

It varies from state to state - here in Washington as long as the mother is over 14 and there's no abuse involved, she can have an abortion (covered by state insurance) and her parents don't have to know.

All I can say on the subject of abortion is I thank God every day my birth mother did not decide on that option!

to the OP, in the movie, she was too far along to get an abortion.
and we don't know how far along she was when she found out she was pregnant.

Ignore the pro-life hypocrites on this page...they lack major common sense. Abortion was discussed at the table, BUT it was mentioned that she was too far along. Even the boys father said that the pregnancy should have been terminated. I'm sure most of us with a brain would have agreed. Rest assured it was discussed!

They didn't tell their parents, which resulted in it being too late for her to do it.
It was mentioned by his mom or dad and by her father, I believe. I'm almost sure, with the way Franny was acting, that if she could have, she would have aborted it. She didn't seem to have much interest in it.
