Wait, you thought that sixty million people died of Smallpox in 2002? Hmm...

reply

Is that any different from a million people in 1938 believing that a Martian army was attacking New York City?

And in case you haven't heard of this before, there was a Halloween radio broadcast of "The War of the Worlds" in news broadcast format. It is estimated that a million people thought they were REAL newscasts. Some even tried to commit suicide before the Martians got them.

That was my first thought when I saw the warning on the US show (I don't konw if it's the same one). And actually, they had two warnings of such nature during the War of the World's broadcast and not enough people heard them.

reply

That's entirely different. Smallpox was presented in a retrospective way, like a documentary, not as breaking news.

And if you thought that sixty million people, including one million Americans died of Smallpox in 2002, you're none too sharp.

Since I saw a commercial for this movie on FX, i have been doing a little poking around... 'cause it looks pretty cool.

Did this movie already come out? Where?

If so, let me know what it was like...

The Orsen Wells War of the World Broadcast was to a local area(New Jersey)before the days of tv, internet etc. so it would be easy for people not to know better. It blew over the next day. If something had killed one million Americans and 60 million worldwide you'd have to be living under a rock not to know as it would have been the main news story for a decade unless something worse were to happen that is.

The last reported case was in 1978 in some southeastern country I believe. The disease was erradicated in 1980, so it's safe to say it no longer exists, so nobody gets it anymore. Thank God, too, because it's 10x worse than chicken pox. I've seen pictures...not pretty.
