I loved Seth Green in this movie; he is a terrific actor and it's great that he isn't typecasted. It's funny how you all say that Macaulay Culkin's acting was so bad because he talks some what like that in real life. He was just adding some extra gay flair to his normal voice.

If this movie is worth watching it is because of the cast's performance.Mack was very good as always but I think Seth Green was even better.(although I 'm a Macaulay fan)

I thought Culkin was amazing, it was wonderful seeing him in this acting enviorment, i didn't really pay attention to Seth's acting because i'm such a Culkin fan, but i'm sure Seth did just as FABULOUS!

i found his acting to be awful. he didn't seem to have a clue how to be a gay man and what was with the fake english accents...do they just think gay boys walk around talking in english accents in america..i dont think so.

reply

I thought he did well as a gay boy, because that preppy-like voice sounded like it.

What's with people saying he over-acted??? The dude was half asleep most of the time! I didn't turn it off, but that was one of the most wooden, unemotional, unconvincing performances I've seen. It was bad. Really not good. They needed someone else. At least Seth grew into his character and did a decent job by the end. I don't think it was all Macauley's fault though - the script, the cinematography (was it shot on digital???) and the direction were all pretty slap-dash poor. The cheesy soundtrack (not the dance songs) was grating, too. This could have been a fantastic movie, up there with the likes of Bully where reality and fiction interveaw to make a great piece of cinema. All these people trying to justify Macauley's bad acting by saying "Yeah, but if you've seen the real guy..." - Listen, if the audience has to watch something OTHER than the movie, to actually get into the movie, then the movie has not done it's job. PLAIN and SIMPLE. He's acting was crap.

Here's hoping the other Culkin's don't go down the same road.

Actually, Josh, I know quite a few flamboyant queens who affect a few Brit expressions and tones in everyday speech -- comes probably from seeing Rocky Horror too many times in the early eighties while one was still in high school.

Toodles, honey!

Macaulay Culkin looked like he was acting. Seth Green looked like he was performing -- and that is precisely what the Club Kids did. They were on stage, in character 24/7.

And this is why for me both actors were great. Seth Green was performing, doing what he did best, and he came out on top in the end of the film. Culkin was a small town kid 'acting' like Seth, and he crashed and burned.

Unless of course Culkin was just crap, I think perhaps the woodeness came from the fact that Alig was supposed to be acting, he was out of his league, the drugs and the glamour were too much for him and it all went wrong. Fakeness leads to tradgedy.

But yea, it's much more likely that Culkin was off his face the whole time, which again, worked perfectly.

I believed Culkin more than Seth Green.

i think the whole scene at the birthday party Macaulay(Michael) sounded like a beeyatch, you know the part when he's breaking the records. And what was that dumb nervous laugh. People always go on about how charming Michael was and everyone wanted to be around him, well if he was anything like what Macaulay portrayed it made him seem very annoying. So if that's what he was going for then it works for me. As far as Seth Green, well James told him to be flamboyant.

i thought that his acting was good but michael and james thought that macaulay acted a little too much like richie rich

I thought Macaulay Culkin did a good job at portraying Alig. From the interviews I've seen online he was much like Michael. Also the costumes and make up were almost identical to actual make up and items Alig wore. Although I do agree that Seth was consistent throughout the whole film. He had James pinned from prance to voice to looks. Hysterical. All in all a great movie. The book is fantastic too I suggest anyone read it if you havent already. It holds a lot more that the movie leaves out and gives you a better idea of the real Michael Alig and James St. James.

This was one of my questions to Michael Alig when I wrote him in prison. When he responded he said

"yes, i do get a million letters from people who have seen the movie...all wanting to know what i think of it...when the truth is, i still havent seen party monster. i have seen photos of the different starts playing us...ive read the script...but havent seen the movie. from what i have seen, mac overacted a bit...im not that flamboyant...and i dont have a british accent...mac seems more like my friend richie rich, from what ive seen. the clothes and makeup and party scenes seem pretty accurate, though...and in the end i think thats all anyone i know...really cares about!"
