I think the people bashing the show are missing that pretty much the entire show is improv. There's a general storyline but the dialoge is ad-libbed. It's not your standard sitcom. Some people "get it", some don't. Those that get it and appreciate subtle humor and improv are the ones who enjoy the show.
What's also engaging about the show is that it's grounded in reality for the most part. The current featured review has the reviewer complaining about an 8min sequence about arguing about balancing the checkbook. Most families actually have arguments about balancing the checkbook. You don't have the annoying thing where all the lead character's friends just walk into their homes like on Friends, etc. Or people who have jobs but just never seem to be there.
