Why did Eric Roberts leave the show?

I mean, I am more than sure it was actually one of the reasons for the show to be closed that early - was there some kind of conflict between him and the producers?

I was thinking maybe he realized that the show was basically dead in the water and so he wanted to get out right away.

Agree with your post about why Eric Roberts left the show. And he's sure been busy since. However, the show didn't start "underperforming" (at least in its ratings) until the "brains" at ABC took it out of its Tuesday slot and dumped it into a terrible Friday time period for its third season.

It seems like we really need to admit that his acting/comedy was the weakest part of the show. He never really fit the role, don't you think? I never thought he was comfortable with the comedy. Everyone around him was so natural and at ease. He was completely stiff, monotone and awkward.

I like Eric Roberts in the roles he is good at (mob dramas, cops, etc). But mainstream comedy is NOT his suit.

He leaves? I'm only in the first season, I'm finding him quite likable in the ol' sitcom role.
