Do you know background of story?Spoilers!!

the interviews on the dvd i saw- were only in spanish. if you saw the dvd, did the writer reveal where the story came from? was it at all autobiographical, or from a story he read? What did you think the couple was going to do after they said goodbye to their sons? was it impossible for people to escape the country back then? couldn't they have hidden out in some obscure unpopulated region? or do you think they had made up their minds to go back and 'fight the fight' and likely die- for the future of their children? Thanks for your help understanding this. I am a big Ricardo Darin fan and there are very few of his films available here in the U.S.(El Aura has been my favorite so far.)

as far as I know is it a fictional story. I just read the book but did not watch the movie so far. But stories like that happened during Argentinean military rule in the thousands as well as in whole Latin America during these times with friendly support of the US. Of course some survived, some tried to get to Europe and some just hided - sometimes successful sometimes not. Nevertheless the toll was quite high and until today there exist large list of people who vanished. So it is not that fictional and I can really recommend the book written by Figueras on which he based also his screenplay. Military rule stretched in many of the Latin American countries into the beginning nineties and still judges and government did not really dig into it. You will find a lot more if you search "operation condor". It was one of the saddest and worst periods for Latin America.

rddube, thank you for your help. You should be very proud of your English- it is very impressive!(One thing you might like to know- in English the past tense of 'to hide' is 'hid'.'Hide' is an irregular verb. So, 'some just hid'.
I do love Ricardo Darin's work; I wish all his films were available to us in the U.S. I think my favorites have been El Faro and El Aura.
