Does this have any chance of coming back?

I've posted before, so you may have seen some of my older postings. I really loved this show, I was really hoping before that sci-fi might pick it up and make new episodes, but Sci-fi is really going down hill. They're cancelling Stargate SG-1, or ending it whatever you want to call it. Personally, I hate Stargate. However they are ending it to have more time to play wrestling and crap like that. It's as if they are trying to break away from Sci-fi. But that's stupid because they are a sci-fi channel. It would still be so awesome if John Doe got picked back up somewhere. And Threshold as well, Threshold is another great show that got cancelled without an honest chance to survieve. What we need, is like a dead show channel. A channel that will go and take sci-fi shows or whatever else immidiately after they get cancelled and start them back up again. The cancelled show channel. It's sounds dumb but it would be nice.

If they're not going to bring back John Doe, the least they can do is do a 2-hour special to wrap things up.

i think we need to find a way to send mail and emails to sci-fi and try to get them to start john doe back up.

reply

Yeah but the producers dont respect the viewers they only regard money and power as important.

Still a brilliant and compelling series!
Shame like all the great series get cancelled before time was due!

reply

One word: Prison Break. I loved this show but it just ain't going to happen. Some of my dad's dying words were actually John Doe. He had a rare brain tumor and it was in his short term memory I guess.

reply

Good shows never stay on TV. Only stupid shows like Desperate Housewives seem to. I've yet to figure out why.

Wrestling on a channel called Sci-Fi? That's sick. I'm glad I don't live in the US, no offence. We have a channel here called Space, and they actually do show only Sci-Fi and Fantasy shows. Granted, not all of them are good, but I'd rather watch a bad Sci-Fi or Fantasy show then wrestling.

reply

im glad im not the only one who thinks wrestling on the scifi channel is gay but i suppose there trying to hint at the fact that wresting is fake. Even if John Doe doesnt get picked back up for a second season or a special (ie. Batttlestar Galactica 2003 2 hour event) they could at least right some book to conclude it.

reply

Well as all of you have mentioned it's nice to know that I'm not the only guy interested in the potentially non-existent future of this series.. oh and I'm currently watching Prison Break and it is awesome .. one of few movies that keeps me in my seat for the whole episode . or a couple of episodes in a row. Anyway I was really hoping that John Doe would continue at least to see what happens with John and his wife and with his friend :/ They really "turned the heat up" on the show on the last few episodes and just ended it so suddenly. I mean come on he just learned how to master psychic powers, found his wife.. found out his friend was his worst enemy .. Jesus they are evil evil people to end that show to put on wrestling.

reply

I liked the show very much and I'm not trying to be a smarta** know-it-all, but you do realize the show originally aired on FOX in 2002, right? That's 4 years ago! So, the fact that wrestling is coming to Sci-Fi is totally unrelated to the cancelling of the show. A wrap-up 2 hour special would be awesome. With the success of Prison Break, Dominic Purcell is really hot right now and I think it would be hugely profitable for FOX to air the movie, unless they sold the rights to Sci-Fi. I don't know how those things work. Whoever chose to make a movie to tie up the loose ends would be sure to make a killing because the series definitely has a following. I would buy the dvd.

I'm also waiting and waiting for this show to coming back....

reply

"o dont call wrestling fake the drama yeah thats fake but so is john doe
or battlestar"

I think you're being a bit semantical here. Wrestling IS fake, WRESTLERS will TELL you it is so!

BUT, what do we mean by 'fake' here? When it is said wrestling is fake it is meant that it isn't REALLY a competitive SPORT. The outcome is scripted.

But, it is NOT fake in the sense that it requires true athletic ability to perform!

An, yes, tv drama's are also fake, but NOBODY is saying they aren't! TV shows and movies are KNOWN to be 'fake' in the semse that what is happening is KNOWN to be scripted, performed, and acted. This is also true in wrestling, but some still try to claim its a REAL sport with an unknown outcome (accidents not withstanding). No, tv wrestling is entertainment, pure and simple. After all, some wrestler go on to be successful actors! Why do you think that is? Where did they get their training do you suppose? hehe :)

PS - There is such a thing a REAL wrestling as a sport, but people don't watch that at all... they want DRAMA! So REAL wrestling isn't at all popular in contrast to ENTERTAINMENT wrestling...

Let me put this one more way. A stuntman who falls into a burning table is also faking it, even if he actual falls into the table, isn't he? It's PLANNED ahead of time... :)

i heard an interview with the creators of this show after it ended and they said they never really decided how to end it but one of their ideas on how john got all his knowledge came from biblical teachings. that when you die, you are touched by the finger of God and instilled with all his knowledge. so then john didnt stay dead for some reason. i dont know but i thought it sounded neat.

Shmra,

You've probably figured out already why good shows get cancelled or anything like it. Just hoping I can help you out with my theory.

For me, a good show is a combination of a genius idea and creative writing(just to make the show stay on its course).. The networks run a business and for them to make money out of those shows, they have to cater to all of the viewing audiences. And just like what I've said about the recipe for a good show, Only a handful of people can appreciate if a said show is really good. I think there's a big difference between a REALLY GOOD SHOW and just PLAIN GOOD.

Hope I make sense and I also hope that I have helped you out.

reply

I'm not trying 2 be mean but:

1 the show aired for 1 season back in 2002 so there's no chance for a comeback hopefully a dvd/tv movie would wrap things up but its not gonna happen

2 if the sci fi network is ending or canceling shows its not for wrestling. They give wrestling on that channel only once a week for an hour so its not like the sci fi channel can't air other shows around that one time slot. Plus if u think they're cancelling shows cuz of wrestling taking over the network- which its not- then maybe sci fi shouldn't give like 5 hour marathons of other shows everyday

reply

OK, these brilliant but cancelled shows need a 2 hour wrap up movie to end the pain:

1. John Doe

2. Now and Again (not to be confused with "Once and Again"...I'm talking about the one with Eric Close as the genetically engineered superman with John Goodman's brain, and Dennis Haysbert as the doctor

3. The Pretender

4. Surface

5. Invasion

reply

When does CPR become Necrophilia? - Joss Whedon on Firefly

umm PoppaRptzi...Pretender has 2 movies out..thougt I'd tell you

reply

If anyone remembers, John Doe came out in the same season as Firefly. The problem was that Fox that season couldn't pull their collective heads out of their asses. Their were about 12 shows that got cancelled that season. They had no idea in which direction they wanted to go (I think it was because of a whole managment shift or something). As for FireFly, the only reason they were able to pull that out of the fire after a few years was because that so called "cult following" continued to bombard the networks for a conclusion. It didn't hurt that Joss Whedon worked his but off to give his fans a conclusion...I still can't believe they killed Wash:(
So my conclusion is this...If enough people complained to the networks about John Doe, who knows, maybe they would go back and make a conclusion for it.

Ummmm...This may be old news, but it's new to me, so I'll give it a shot.

John Doe is on the FX Channel. Caught it the other morning and i was just astounded to see it on TV again. No new shows (ever, apparently), but it's still great. Or you can download the torrent at 8.8 GB.

"What is conspiracy about john Doe and why did't second season?"

I think we would have learned the answer to this question in the second season... (yes, that was an attempt at humor)...lol :)

It's been more than 4 years since it stoppped and Fox didn't show any interest in bringing it back. You know, what's the best for us is not necessarily the best for them. =(

reply

Right when the show was cancelled, I did some research on whether it might ever make a comeback and this is what I found: The creators sold the rights to the show to Fox. In the case of Firefly, Whedon still held the rights, so he was able to make "Serenety". Fox has what is called "The Vault" where cancelled shows they hold the rights to are placed. At the time I read the article, no show that has been placed in "The Vault" has EVER come back. I'm afraid the only thing we can hope for is that the creators will pony up the rest of the answers to our many unanswered questions. This is still likely considering the recent statement explaining why Doe knows everything. So, anyone know any of the creators or how to pose questions to them?

^Could you post a link to the recent statement?

I don't think Wikipedia is the most reliable source, especially since none of the information on that page was cited.

reply

They really need to wrap this up; either with a 2hour special or a second season.

reply

You mean like what the uk channel Dave has done with Red Dwarf.

reply

Everyone just call the Netflix number and request the first season on there! We can make it happen!
