Jay Leno: Jimmy Kimmel's "mean streak" is to blame for his low ratings

"The most element you can have in doing a late night show is kindness,” Leno says. "Because the show makes you arrogant. I think that’s Jimmy Kimmel’s problem. I think he’s a talented guy, I think he’s funny. But he has a mean streak, and it comes across. He does this thing where he takes Halloween candy from kids and the kids cry. What am I missing here? It is funny I guess, but it’s mean-based. I think that’s why he’s not higher in the ratings.”

His terminal sarcasm is what got him the job to begin with. Hasn't Leno ever caught an episode of Win Ben Stein's Money?? He was an ass back then too.

Give us a break please. I always thought Leno was lame, and this further proves it for me.

Mean-based? Leno makes a living off of making fun of people.

His Jay Walking bit he had is all about making people look STUPID.

Leno is simply taking jabs at Kimmel because Kimmel famously called out Leno for how he handled the Conan thing.

That's exactly why I like Kimmel better than the rest of the Late Nigth guys right now. He's the only one with a bit of an edge (or "mean streak" as some might call it). He has the sarcastic smart-assness of 80s Letterman and isn't afraid to make fun of his guests at times, whereas the new breed of hosts are are sycophantic fanboys like Fallon, James Corden and Seth Meyers who just giggle and gush and kiss ass about how much THEY LOVE EVERYTHING and OMG THIS GUEST YOU ARE THE GREATEST MAN! I LOVE ALL YOUR WORK SO MUCH OMG! ugh... those guys are just as bad as Leno when it comes to interviewing. I loved when Kimmel had Bob Odenkirk on a few months ago and mocked Jimmy Fallon's whole concept of insipid games with the guest (watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySmEn2g_LxA) I'd say Kimmel, Conan (sucks everyones forgot he exists now that hes on TBS) and Colbert (tho his CBS is sadly nowhere near as interesting to watch as The Colbert Report was) are the only ones worth watching.
