Worthy re-tooling of the original -- too bad it was cancelled.

I enjoyed this series. I wonder wny the public never really got into it?

Oh, the public was into it fine for the first season. It had Alias as a lead in on Sunday nights in the 10-11pm timeslot. It was the retooling they did for the second season and it's move to Tuesday nights at 9pm that killed it. In fact ABC pull the plug on the second season before all the episodes aired.

Freakosity is a very vast subject.

Thanks for the background. I'm aware that the success or failure of a serious has a lot of other factors than just quality.

I've been watching season one of the new Dragnet on HuLu and enjoying it. But so far the plots have been very driven by the crime rather than by the personalities or issues of the detectives -- which seems to be the direction all the crime shows are going.

Eh, the first season was solid, but the second season they seemed to retool it to try to appeal to the CSI crowd, by dumping Embry and expanding into a team format...That really killed it for me. It was just another CSI clone at that point...

The second season lost steam for me too but it was still a fun, entertaining show. I've been rewatching the series here and it was a solid production.

It is funny what become a hit and what doesn't: I won't go the cliched "the public has no taste route" because what I'm the public too after all.

I must note that I'd watched "Married With Children" as a kid and was at first amused, then impressed that Ed O'Neill could be a convincing police officer.
