Were they trying to make Chris 'SYMPATHETIC'? spoilers?

Almost every time she does something "bad" you look at her face afterwards and she seems to be thinking about what she had done. Maybe actually being "sorry" for doing something "wrong". I don't know, it might just be my perception.

After Chris is suspended and Sue Snell almost tells her to shove it you can see Chris thinking. Maybe what she did to Carrie was wrong, even if she first says "It's Carrie's fault".
Also before the "Blood Scene" Chris is really thinking about what she's doing and reconsidering hurting Carrie again. It's really Billy's taunting that puts Chris over enough to pull the rope.
Then later Billy tries to run down Carrie and Chris actually tries to stop him.
I might be going by the Original movie more that the Book, but Nancy Allen played Chris ruthless with no remorse what so ever. Allen was the opposite of TV Version it seems.

Chris took no responsability for her actions. She was a bitch.

Yeah, of course she did, she was a bitch, but she was no murderer, and like any human being, would try and prevent someone's murder.

It seems that the Chris character in the 2002 remake is not as mean as the Chris in the 1976 original.

In the book Chris does have some second thoughts about the right and wrong of what she was doing, only toward the end while planing the bucket of blood trick, but she was still a bitch to the end.

reply

In my honest opinion, if she had second thoughts they were probably along the lines of, "What if I get caught?".

I don't think she ever thought, "What if this is wrong? What if I actually hurt Carrie?"

Chris was a bitch but she was no murderer. Her boyfriend Billy was the true villain of the film and book because he barely knew who Carrie was and still plotted against her (in the book it even states that Billy took over the plan from Chris himself) also Billy is a complete psychopath in both the book and remake he has no morals no compassion no remorse even his friends are scared of him. Also it states that Billy would do it if Chris herself was under the bucket Chris was a bitch but Billy was a monster

Yeah, the original movie actually made Chris worse than she was in the book and shifted Billy into the role of clueless stooge. The remake actually got those two characterizations right.
