Spoiler but before Carrie goes to the Prom her mother quotes
"Woe to the woman who makes garments with lustful purposes for she is prideful and curses and rejects the Lord" Ezekiel chapter 13 maybe she does make them up?

Which is about false profits.

Margaret White is crazy. She perverts and mixes what God teaches to suit her own warped views. She (or better yet, the screenwriter ) is combining Jezebel with Ezekiel 13:18 to show how delusional and dangerous she is. Incidentally, that particular passage is not found in the novel.
