Were you surprised by the ending?

I was, it's different from the book.

Honestly yes. In fact, its one of the things i would have changed in the film, because having this new ending takes away the tragic aspect of the story, which made the original and the novel so great. As it is, its still an ok film to me, but the ending is a major cop out.

Hopefully the 2013 reboot won't make this mistake.

Wrong. Even if Carrie has survived her actions will haunt her for the rest of her life.

I just read they ended the film this way because they wanted to make a tv series out of it.

I believe the series would have followed Carrie in Florida and finding other girls like herself. She would have helped them deal with these powers. I think I read a long time ago that she would eventually run into a girl who is using her abilities for evil purposes and Carrie feels like she has stop that girl's sinful ways. Carrie was also supposed to be haunted by dreams and then visions of her mother and Chris, which manifest because she harbors a deep guilt about what she had done. No one from the tv movie except the main actress (Carrie) and the actresses who played her mom and Chris would have been in the series. Although mom and Chris would have been minor roles probably popping up once in a while. Nothing was ever mentioned as to how Carrie would have survived out there on the streets. Maybe some kind caring elderly couple would have taken her in and treated her like a daughter...it is Florida.
