Carnivale Ending

Hi, Just seen the reviews of this show.Would like to give this show a go.

Does this show end on a cliffhanger or is it wrapped up well..?

reply

The show was planned to have six seasons, with every two seasons forming one "book," so essentially the two seasons we got form a cohesive story that ties up in the last episode. However, there are definitely cliff-hangers and things that leave you guessing, which would have been answered in the third season; it's frustrating, but I don't find it nearly as bad as some do. Certainly, it doesn't make the show pointless to watch -- it's one of the finest series ever aired, and certainly the most atmospheric and visually beautiful.

Thanks for reply. will check it out.

Thanks,

that's a real constructive answer, while not giving anything away. Appreciated.

Ahhh, the douche-baggery that is "I came into a thread entitled "Ending" and then complained about spoilers."

Gettin' tired of people doing that. Especially when they're adults. Can't imagine what they were like as children. Probably avatar'd their mothers, for sure.

(Nice picture, bro.)

Just finished watching this series and really enjoyed it. I've read what the writer intended and so the ending doesn't bother me now. Still a shame that we didn't get a couple of more seasons. I do have one question, however, was it Sofie all along who had the power and not her mother? So, did she start the fire too?

No. They make it clear that Appolonia started the fire and not Sofie.

I am almost positive that Scudder is the rapist who got Appolonia pregnant, as they showed Sofie "seeing" the rape, and we saw that it was Scudder.

The next time I have an idea like that... punch me in the face! -- Tyrion Lannister

I think you're wrong re Scudder as the rapist. Surely it was Brother Justin, if memory serves. He is Sofie's father. Recall the seemingly tacked on dialogue about how Justin suddenly became "obsessed" with this Gypsy girl? Then shots of him as a young man banging on her door? I always found those ideas last-minute & artificial, because until whatever dark side came to consume him, Justin seemed like a decent, authentic person & preacher. I don't see him with a history of committing rape. But Scudder as a rapist seems even less likely.

A bunch of major unresolved questions at the end. If you really dislike ambiguity, this is not the show for you.

Spoiler alert here but I gotta say that I love this show and no cancelation has quite pissed me off the way this one did because it was getting SO good in the second season and the finale was building up to something big but we'll never know exactly what! I still haven't gotten over it and still own season 1 and 2. Maybe one day I'll continue we're they left off with my own ending that I came up with...I wish there were a book or graphic novel or something that tied this up. Such a captivating story should never be left untold in it's entirety

What happened to Ben? Is Jonesy dead? What happened to Sophie? Did she become the Omega? Grrrrrrr!!! I need answers!!!

Here you go ... spoilers abound: http://www.avclub.com/article/daniel-knauf-tells-us-his-plan-for-the-end-of-icar-92877

Oh thank you. I never read that when I watched this the first time. I'm glad I read that before watching S2 again.

I understand. Thank you for telling me. -The masked bandit

The end was good with the mother torching herself and her daughter and then Jonesy burning himself up trying to save her.

Ben strangles the blind guy, who got his eyesight back from management, and then his death resurrects the cougar lady.

The evil minister dude declaring the devil is present among them in a sermon.

Good stuff.

@ beafraid00

That was the end of the first season.
Not the end of the second and (unfortunateley) last season.

reply

My memory is that it just ended. Like they had planned to go on but HBO pulled the plug.
