I can't remember the exact episode for your first question. I know its in the middle of season 1.
But for your second question the episode is called "Tidings of Comfort & Joy". Episode 9 of Season 3. Its probably my favorite episode so I remeber that one vividly.
I don't know if this is at all helpful two months later, but...the first episode you're referring to is called 'Pryor Knowledge'-it's the third episode of Season 1
