American Dreams vs The 60s

I remember watching "The 60s" for my US History class as an 11th grader. I rewatched it last week. I could not help but notice some similarities between this and "American Dreams." Both families were Irish Catholic, they went to Catholic school, the strict dad, the oldest jocky son goes to Vietnam, the daughter likes music and dancing, etc. I also remembered that the dad wanted the son to play ball at Notre Dame (just like JJ) in the 60s movie, but the recuiter watched the guy play, but didn't say much to him.

Of course both show the race riots that happened throughout the country. I just happened to notice a lot of similarities...

I wondered if the producers of AD got inspiration from "The 60s."

I definitely agree. I have watched both many times and they are very similar in my book. Civil Rights, Anti-War activism, showing both a black and white family, Notre Dame, etc.
