Drink in the Cafe? What is it?

During the meeting between Weinter (Keaton) and the Information Minister in the cafe, the two of them are drinking a clear liquid, no ice with green or dark-colored leaves or something in it. The drink appears to be in a cocktail glass and they're certainly in a cafe/pub that serves alcoholic beverages as several other men are seen drinking beer. Closest thing I can make of the drink is that it's some form of mohito, mint leaves? Rum? Vodka? or what?

Does anyone know what this drink is called and how to make it?

reply

It is tea. Tea is very commonly drunk in Arab societies. Leaves would most likely be mint for flavor. Muslims are strictly forbidden to drink alcohol.

reply

Muslims are not strictly forbidden to drink alcohol. In certain societies it is illegal, such as Saudi Arabia and Iran, both of which are "dry" countries. However in Jordan, Egypt, the UAE, Iraq under Saddam, and other Arab countries, alcohol is readily available. It is forbidden only in the strictest counties like Iran and Saudi Arabia like i just mentioned.

Alcohol IS strictly forbidden in Islam. It is haram for all Muslims, bar none, and this is clearly stated in the Al-Quran.

Whether one country or another forbids the sale of alcohol is besides the point. Unfortunately, some people are only Muslim in name.

But the same is true for folks of other faiths, no?
