Similar music..

Hello folks,
So, had the tube on the other night and a showing of
the Montreal Jazz Festival was on. We have it as a series
on our version of PBS up here in Canada. The featured
performer was Natacha Atlas, who I'll be the first to
admit that I've never heard of her. Anyway, her and her
band do what I guess is something like Arab Power Pop,
or maybe even fusion. Has much the same feel as the
soundtrack for LFB, lots of percussion, both traditional
and western drum kit, heavy bass, with the addition of
her vocals which are all over the place, in a good way.
So, there's all sorts of websites that have samples of
her music, def. worth a listen! I was over in Kuwait
at the time of the Gulf war and then worked out of
Lebanon/Syria for a few years and this music does
get stuck in your head as your "soundtrack" for those
events.
