Man Bites Dog...

I thought the movie was ok, but it's basically a rip-off of Man Bites Dog.

The director constantly references it in the commentary. And in fact, notes the scenes that he considers an "homage" to it.

But I think it's different in that its violence is not nearly as brutal and relentless and a lot more suggestive in moments. Although there are a few brutal moments, they're really quick and not very bloody. The humor is much less brutal as well. Probably due to the personality type of the killer. It showed him as a much more likable, common guy. On the whole an easier pill to swallow than Man Bites Dog, which I couldn't even watch all the way through. There were some parts that I had to walk away it was so bad, but I had no problem making it through to the end of this.

Not an original concept, but I preferred the execution. (so to speak)

Calling this movie a 'rip off' of MAN BITES DOG is like calling a film with zombies in it a 'rip off' of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. Inevitably a documentary about a serial killer is going to resemble MAN BITES DOG, but once you get over that, there are plenty of other things going on that make this as good as, if not better than MAN BITES DOG.

i own both, and i actually think this movie is better then "man bites dog", and don`t reply telling me garbage like "its cuz i can`t handle subtitles.." cuz most of my fav movies are non american movies with subtitles, i like the killing scenes alot more then "man bites dog", but in my opinion the key to this movie is not subject matter (on the note of subject matter i totally agree with jules-108 in his night of the living dead /zombie movie analogy)but the dialogue max has and the way Kevin Howarth portrays max and delivers these lines blew my mind, he was so entertaining and believable in almost a loveable kinda character, even though you were watching gory deaths here and there, you almost felt like watching an artist at work, just happened to be a macabre artist of sorts, keep your eyes out for Kevin Howarth, it wouldn`t suprise me at all to see him become a household name worldwide, not just in the horror genre, but whatever he wanted to make the viewer interrested in, this man has professional written all over him. i`m surpised guy ritchie hasn`t hit him up for a role yet, he seems like just the type of character to make a role kickass in a guy ritchie film, now don`t get me wrong "man bites dog" kicks major ass, they are the same genre of movie, but each holds its own as an individual movie, and my opinion obviously for "last horror movie" is all because great dialogue..and casting Kevin Howarth to execute the lines like no other could....and some wicked executions of people along the way too ;)

Yeah very true haggard, Kevin was class all the way, very convincing.

I gotta say this movie was way way more violent than Man Bites Dog (although I only own the R18 version, not the unrated version) had better production to.

I agree but Man Bites Dog isn't an horror movie at all, it is a dark comedy.
It's really a funny film IMO but Last Horror Movie is definetly trying ro scare people the way the Ring and Blair Witch do.

I saw this before Man Bites Dog so I didn't see the ripoff everyone else did.
This movie makes you squirm, and if you think about it, makes you want to "kill" Max so the mayhem will stop. I found it ingenious.
