The Worst Horror Movie Ever Made.

In my opinion, this film was nothing less than appauling. It reminded me of a bad student film. Although the sound recordist and d.o.p delivered the goods, the script and acting are shambolic. How this film can mentioned in the same breath as "Henry" or "M.B.D" is beyond me. Garth Merengies Darkplace is more disturbing..

I agree, this movie was horrible. I couldn't even watch the whole thing because it was so boring.. HORRIBLE!

reply

I've seen this movie before and it was a lot better the first time.

Man Bites Dog

see that instead.

I totally agree with you. This movie did not offer a single surprise. It amazes me that so many people come to these boards and rave about it. Perhaps they are people who have resently left the Amish faith and this was their first movie. Under that circumstance I can kind of understand their finding some novelty if this mediocre mess.

Personnally if that smart assed serial killer had asked me one more time "Why are you still watching" I would have gotten my own camera crew and gone after him. It is amazing how smug the killer was considering he said nothing that had not been stated many times over in better movies.

I don't know if its the worst horror movie ever made but I hope I don't watch another one that it is better than.

Re "The worst horror film in my opinion would be the toolbox murders or boogeyman"

Although those movies were terrible the last Horror movie was prententious which made it far more annoying. The other films aimed fairly low (cheap thrills) and although they failed in some respects, I imagine you watched these films with lower expectations.

The Last Horror Film tried to sell itself as a intelligent charector study but the dialogue of the killer was so drab and uninteresting that he became more annoying than frightening. I have to agree with the fellow who started this thread who compared it to a bad student film. It had the smug arrogance of a kid who had just read his first psych book, and assuming that no one else was farmiliar, decided to bore everyone with his deep thoughts.

I can laugh at most bad horror movies so I still can get some entertainment out of them. The last horror film was simply smug and dull. A deadly combination.

"appauling" is spelled "appalling".

"Merengies" is spelled "Merenghi's"

sorry - it just seems to be the case most times that the posts that I agree with on this board tend to be the ones with the least spelling mistakes.

Terrible movie

and you all completely missed the point of the movie, imo it delivers what henry failed to deliver, brutal and uncomprimising violence.henry may well be based on real life serial killer henry lee lucas but this could be based on that and many other sickos.its also a blatant stab at film censor ship "do you feel bad for watching this" "would you like to see what i did to him/her...well would you" as far as british horror movies are concerned this one really pushed the boundaries, and im surprised it was let through uncut.the violence is gritty and realistic.alot more realistic than the violence in movies such as henry and man bites dog.. and as for the acting? was nothing wrong with it atall for a bunch of unknowns you cant fault them.and btw how many bad student films have you seen that involve garroting, throttling, death by plastic bag(very realistic),various stabbings all of which looked real, not to mention the scenes involving death by blunt objects.watch it again....really watch it.

reply

You make a interesting point, but I don't think you are being fair to people who did not like the film. I'm not british so I don't know the level of censorship you deal with but I can say that I did not find the violence all that shocking. Since I don't seek out movies based on blood spillage that did not effect my opinion of the film. My problem was with the killers constant narration. He made all of his points in the first twenty minutes and than ran them into the ground for the next hour. I found nothing that he said, new or innovative. If I was at a party and had to listen to someone prattle on about his theories of violence in society I would fake a seizure to get away from the bore.

I am glad that you liked it, but I didn't.
Its a big world with lots of opinions.

If you want to see a bad "horror" movie then I recommend Undead, it's supposed to be a spoof like Shaun of the Dead, only it was unfunny and unentertaining.

I enjoyed this movie for what it was, it's one of the better movies I've seen within the last couple of years.

Because sponges never have bad days.

reply

I disagree. This is a dark british horror movie which is meant to be severely different from any other type of film out there, and it is!!

It is the only film that i have ever watched (since i was 12) that has forced me to switch the lights on when i went to the toilet after it had finished.

I dont knw if u are american but alot of americans dont like british films because they cant relate to them from their own experiences. Thats why i find this film really creepy because I am from London and i recognised places in the film where the killer was driving about!!

THE BEST FILM IVE SEEN IN AGESSSS!!!

FACT!

reply

Oh it's so poor! It's trying far to hard to be clever, and it's just boring.

It didn't help that we rented it on DVD so the bits about him saying ''this isnt the only tape'' didnt actually make any sense.

It wasn't so bad to the point that I felt obliged to turn it off, but mainly because I expected something more interesting to happen.

and don't any of you say that I just 'don't get it' because it's an English film, because I am English.

Boring and pretentious doesn't equal good. I mean, yeah, there are some films that are undoubtedly rather pretentious that I DO enjoy (Eraserhead, for example) but this was just embarrasing.

It was a good idea, and if developed, could be a lot better. It's one of those films that I finished and was like "wow.. good idea, shame it was so *beep* Like when I watched 'My Little Eye'

reply

This film was meant to be pretentious, it is all about some yuppy london type who has pretentious ideas on life and is acting them out through these violent murders. The entire point of the film was the main characters attempt to create a new form of art, how much more pretentious do you want?......but there is a big difference between pretention as a plot device and the actual movie being up it's own arse.

I couldn't help thinking about American psycho every time he went on a rant at the camera.

This film actually has a lot to say for it's self in regards to the way people are drawn to violence and violent movies/images. The scene where he kills the couple in front of each other was an exellent device for involving the viewer in the film. It's not often a movie gets me reacting and thinking as much as The Last Horror Movie.

Pretentious character? Yes, pretentious film? NO. This is not a horror film, it's a critical evaluation of the way viewers consume horror, and an excellent one at that.

reply

This wasn't the worst horror movie ever made, it wasn't scary by any means, but how many horrors are? I found this film to be rather funny, the way max spoke about killing his 3 friends whilst they were sitting mere feet away in the park was pure genius. I mean come on it's not as if it was a david cronenberg film.

reply

Oi Dork faces...
The movie was not meant to something ubelievably awesome. it was meant to look cheap as a criminal made it and he obviously had no camera experience... get a life and when u make a kick ass film you can then critcise other movies...

reply

This was the biggest piece of crap I've ever laid eyes on. This makes something like Lake Placid look like a masterpiece. I nearly beat my friend up for renting this one night and making me watch it......Okay okay, I did beat him up :)

reply

Yep I agree I want that bit of my life back please. The "I'm so clever" attitude of the film was terrible. The only horror was the film itself. I'd rather of picked a scab for 90 mins.

reply

I certainly found the main character extremely pretentious and repetitive. Then again maybe he was supposed to be. Serial killers are usually portrayed as interesting and highly intelligent. Any serial killer I ever read about seemed to me at least to be a boring sad little self-involved prat. Ironically perhaps the movie did too good a job of portraying a serial killer for some people.

reply

I agree... I took a forensics class, and whenever we learned about profiling, we learned that most organized, relatively methodical serial killers of his type are extremely self-absorbed and egotistical. They love to feel socially and mentally "above" the victim, which is exactly what he does by going on and on about the same topics of us supposedly thinking he's terrible and wrong and how he doesn't care.

I also agree with and thank deheor for having a good reason and an intelligent post about why they didn't like the movie rather than some Beavis and Butthead-like "It was crap, yo, liek I hated it becasue there wasnt enough ACTION, just some queer and a camera!!!!!111oneoneone"

(Bad spelling on purpose)

I strongly disagree with you there. I may not be a horror movie expert but so far they all failed to scare me sh*tless until I watched this one last night with a friend. We were on the house on our own and where shaking aftwerwards. I knew in the back of my head there was no killer inside the house after the ending but I still couldnt sleep, and the fact Id never heard of it, didnt recognise any of the actors and live in Britain made it a lot more terrifying. I also disagree about the actor who played Max, I thought his performance was good. Not outstanding, but believeable at the least. I didnt think this movie was just about trying to scare the audience, I think the makers of the film wanted us to see the psycological side of it, plus remind us that stuff like this is real, Ive heard you can even watch real murders which have been deliberately filmed on the internet.
I think it depends on the person. The way this movie has been filmed reminds me of The Blair Witch Project, which also impressed me but has been critisised by almost everyone. I think to enjoy the Blair Witch Project you need to have a good imagination, same with The Last Horror Movie. At the end of the day your imagination is a lot more scarier than a movie.
Hehehe I know I'll probably get insulyted for talking crap, but I just wanted to say I think this is a great film. Not a masterpiece, but worth watching.

"You best start believing in Ghost Stories Miss Turner...You're in one!!"

reply

Hey now I never said I didn't like it ;)

I personally really liked the movie and Kevin Howarth's performance, I was just agreeing that the dialogue was repetitive and probably done so for a reason because most serial killers are egotistical anyways. In this sense, the dialogue ceases to be merely repetitive and goes on to being well-researched.

As for the Blair Witch Project, it can be compared to this film mainly because they (very successfully) tried to pass it off as "real", but unlike this film it ceased being very good after the veiwer realizes it's a hoax. I was younger whenever the BWP first came out, so of course I believed every second of it (especially since they had so much "real" publicity), and later I learned it was a hoax and it kind of lost its "magic". However, I knew all along that the killer in the Last Horror Movie wasn't REALLY in my house, but it was still great nonetheless.

If you knew time as well as I, you wouldn't dream of wasting it.

I liked this movie. It wasn't anything spectacular, but it was enjoyable. I'd give it a 3/5.
