Movies like 'Elf' are made for people who enjoy silliness and quirkiness. So plot error searching is usually pointless when discussing this, and could be thought of as silly thing to do in it's own right.

Because people think they're clever when they "discover" something that "doesn't make sense" in a movie about SANTA

This movie says Santa Claus and elves are real, reindeer pull a sleigh through the air, toys can talk, a man walks from the north pole to New York City in tights and a light jacket, an intelligent woman falls in love with and marries a man with the mind of a toddler, and the woman has a temp job as a department store elf but has a spacious Manhattan apartment. Yet people expect it to be a documentary about real life.
