The cyclonic storm

OK sure I'll buy that the two air masses were so different in temperature that they created a huge cyclone and yeah in the center of cyclones warm air rises and cool air sinks. Fine the storm was exaggerated and I'll go ahead and accept that it was sucking down air from the Tropopause, but the air in the Tropopause isn't -150, it's only -40. Am I barking up the wrong tree or is this a major inaccuracy?
