Why does the father leave?

Just saw the movie, didn't quite understand why the father left? He mentions something about having gone out with the lads and lassies, or there were lassies there. Did he cheat? or did he have so much fun with his friends that he missed the single life?

He found another woman who he met at the pub and he was going to stay with her.

yeah, he found another and he and his wife settled on carrying on as friends; I would have still prefered a proper divorce though.
