What if Crockett Sniped Santa Anna?

Who knows if that scene really happened or not but what if Crockett or one of the others had hit Santa Anna and killed him? Would things have changed?

reply

I'm of the mindset that things would have changed dramtically. Santa Anna was a dictator, through and through, and with him gone, the subordinate generals (Manuel Cos, the gray-haired older one) more than likely would have assumed command, and have brokered some sort of deal. Interestingly, such a deal might have even averted the Mexican-American War of the 1840's, leading to a very different-looking US map today.

Someone else would have taken command under General Filisola (his second-in-command) arrived. No doubt they would have accepted the surrender.

I imagine that they would have been victorious in the Texas campaign as well. Most of the faults came from Santa Anna's stupid decisions and lack of mercy. Filisola and the rest of the generals certainly would have put an end to that.

So that would have settled things in Texas, the Mexican American War might very have been averted, which means the United States may have never gotten involved in World War I (a major reason was the Zimmermann Telegraph, in which Germany promised to help Mexico re-conquer Texas and California and New Mexico if they invaded the US. When the US intercepted this it pushed them to enter the war). Which may have meant no WWII, which means no Cold War, which means no Soviet-Invasion of Afghanistan, which means no 9/11, which means no Wars in the Middle East. Humans would have prevailed.

History is *beep* insane.

Wow...all that could've been avoided? But then we wouldn't have Chiclets!

isn't it weird that Santa Anna lived in the US for a while? You would think some American would try to kill him for both the Alamo and Goliad.

reply

Santa Ana was probably smart enough to stay out of long rifle range.

I liked the reflection in Crockett's eye, suggesting that he was trying to shoot the epaulet off Santa Anna's uniform, and not kill him.
