I really enjoy this show but there is one thing I really can't grasp. The other day I saw an episode where a woman had an complaint and called YPS (of course making fun of UPS), my question is, how did the crank callers get a hold of that call?
my work line is just one digit off from a toll-free number for some gas and electric utility in texas. my fax line is one off from a AAA-auto club fax line. so i get both fairly often (like once a week, which is kinda often). the people who call for the power company are *just* like some of the dingbats on this show. old, slow and not too bright. the faxes are all death certifiates. and its AMAZING how many people don't understand when they're told they have the wrong number. "but this is the number they gave me", "what is the correct number". the concept that they actually mis-dialed and pushed "8" instead of "0", doesn't enter their line of reasoning. i used to call the people who faxed me accidentally, and let them know, but that was a "no good deed goes un-punished" idea - some would bitch "destroy that fax!", others would ask numerous questions, again, unfamiliar with the idea that they made a mistake.
point being, if i had the talent, i could've been making quite some funny prank calls with this, but no, instead i try to politely hang up. they get the idea after it settles in for a few minutes.
My grandmas old phone number was 1 digit off from some military place. I forget exactly what it was cause that was like 15 years ago, but we would miss dial and end up hanging up really quick and hope the MP's didn't show up to bust our heads...
Too crazy for boystown; too much of a boy for crazytown.
They don't really hijack the calls, their # is like one digit off from UPS's real number. In one call the guy (The Touchtone terroiststs is just one guy) he must've felt bad for one person they pranked cause he told them they dialed one digit off. I'm sure some of them are scripted but other ones I'm sure are actual UPS Customers. I work for UPS on the customer service # and some of those calls I'm sure are real.
