The many HIPAA violations of Everwood

How do any of these doctors still have their medical licenses when they are incapable of going one day without gossiping to someone about a patient's confidential medical information? HIV positive? Unplanned pregnancy? Contracted chlamydia from a hooker in Vegas and don't want your wife to know? Getting tested for STD's before you begin sleeping with your girlfriend? Soon everyone in town will know after your doctor shares your intimate medical issue with, not only the doctors across the street, but the waitress at the local diner. And no one, NO ONE ever complains. Unbelievable.

These are good points, I guess the small town charm lulls everybody into a sense of apathy with respect to their privacy, and with only one or two doctors in town, maybe they fear even less professional people taking their place who aren't nearly as attractive.

The writers on TV shows always break confidentiality laws eventually, even on legal dramas. It seems like a lazy, unrealistic way to create drama. It does happen in real life, but there are serious consequences like being fined, losing one's license, and facing lawsuits.
