Goldberg Variations

My understanding of the use of the Goldberg Variations in the movie was this:
(Influenced by my understanding and feelings on the GV on their own)

- a beautiful source of similar composition, but with significantly different outcomes.

- the film used only the aria and one other variation (i think... not positive,) is this a concious choice on the directors part that stressed:
a. the uniformity, yet beauty, of the situation/japanese culture/struggle?

b. by using only one or two variations of the GV, was the director or music director trying to say that amelie's understanding of japanese culture naive? (otherwise they would have used multiple GV's in different situations?)

anyone have ideas on this?

I don't know the answers to your questions, but several variations (as I recall, 2,3,5,26, etc.) were used.
