Her looks

I know that Sylvie Testud doesn't look like the real Amelie concerning physical aspects such as eyes and hair color. But what caught my attention was Amelie's presentation in the film. From her first day in the company (when usually one tries to cause a good impression) she seems so untidily dressed and her hair is always a mess as well. Maybe they tried to make a contrast with the tidy Japanese people, but I thought it so odd. I would understand if her looks got messy after she started suffering humiliations, but I can't understand why she wouldn't even bother to comb her hair to start a new job, where she would like to have been respected. I have to confess that it really distracts me some times. Hard to believe someone would go to work like that.
