Totally comes across as a Bond movie at parts (they even reference the a 'bond theme song' at the scene where they shoot through the abandon'd building wall when a helicopter is chasing them'... - - watching it on Direct TV, it seems entertaining...when it first came to theaters, I remember thinking 'who cares...' - may have to watch this later in full. Still 130 million to make and only 60 million recoup'd...that's painful
shareDirk Pitt was always described as a "underwater James Bond" and Clive Cussler used Bond as an influence. He even had a more Bond like supporting character in a few of his books, teaming with Pitt on occasion.
A sequel was planned until Cussler sued for purely egotistical reasons as well as not honoring his contract.
The film did much better overseas, garnering an additional $80 million...
