Unfathomable Misfire

It hard to see why Idle thought this would work. Any good in it was done better in the 1978 show, and much of this misfires completely in both idea and execution.

I got to talk to Mr. Idle for brief moment on his Greedy Bastard Tour and after thanking him for a great performance and for acknowledging Peter Cook, I asked him why he decided not to take part in the Rutles' "Archeology" album (which was new at the time and is quite good, by the way). He replied "Well, I didn't really see the joke---but it didn't stop me from using some of the music for my new Rutles program." At the time, I don't think it had been released yet.

How could Eric Idle, on his worst day, not see the humor in a further Beatles parody using their Anthology work as the basis, but think that this vapid mess would be funny?

What a shame Idle and Innes didn't work together to do a real parody of Anthology, as a mockumentary and soundtrack album.
