The compulsory shower and compulsory nudity have nothing to do with hygiene. They're humiliation techniques, plain and simple.
When a school creates an athletic team, endows it with special insignia and praise, that school is knowingly creating a goon squad to terrorize other students.
The school is sending a message: Might makes Right.
I agree in a way... There is no reason not to have stalls around each shower with a door...community showers are a form of humiliation and it doesn't' help that the locker room staff can gawk at you....
I DID have to shower (required) after gym class (again, required), and I was humiliated not only for myself, but for all the other kids (boys and girls locker rooms) who where mentally abused by this control tactic. I am in my forties now, and I have still suffer emotionally from it. I had a male chum who attended an all-boys Catholic school, and he told me that the pervert priests made them swim in the nude...WHY??? We all know why now, don't we? I am Catholic, and it is a beautiful religion. It is the Vatican that is a corrupt, good-old-boys club that gives it a bad reputation.
Boys swimming naked in high school wasn't limited to Catholic high schools for my generation. I went to public school and heard the boys talk about this in the cafeteria. The teacher gave them the creeps but there were no stories of molestation that I ever heard.
My mother asked me what the big deal was and she was a Catholic school survivor. When I heard of this movie and told her about it she was incensed.
The Fabio Principle: Puffy shirts look best on men who look even better without them.
